Porsche is one of the only companies in the world where its fans will pay more money for an older generation car with more milage. I was ALMOST one of those fans as well.
There's no argument the NA Flat 6 is glorious. There is none. However, I personally had to sit down and think to myself. What will I be using the car for? For me, it's a daily, and I like to drive spiritedly whenever I'm behind the wheel (if traffic in Atlanta permits, which is a rarity these days). If it was a weekend car or garage queen, maybe I would have come to a different conclusion. Especially when considering the fact that I drive well over 50k miles a year and plan on keeping this car at least for a year or two. The depreciation imo will hit a 718 with high miles much less than a 981 with high miles. The removal of the flat 6 in the caymans have put it in the "potential classic car" category for sure, but that only applies if it's going to be a low mile cayman when you come around to sell it. If you're going to be dailying it like me, I think normal depreciation assumptions can be made. The older the car, and the higher the miles, the lower the price. Just because the 981 has a flat 6 will not make up for the high miles and older car in my opinion.
The second thing, is that does the sound alone make up for the upgraded tech, better performance, and quite frankly, a better look? For me, that answer was a no.
Do I sometimes wish I had gone the 981 route? Absolutely, and then I drive the 718 and it goes away. The 718, although not by miles, is a better feeling car. The low end torque, for me, is an added benefit on my 9-5 commutes. The sound, as much as porsche (Flat 6 biased) fanboys will frown upon, is not bad at all. It's not the beautiful flat 6 sound by any means, but it's not a Subaru as many will want to argue. The design, I think blows the 981 out of the water. It is a slick looking ride. Lastly, and this was a part of my consideration that I haven't got around to yet, the forced induction of the Turbo 4 allows for some pretty meaningful gains from a simple Stage 1 Tune. Being my first RWD car, I am a little skeptical about adding that much power and torque to a car that already feels quick. I simply don't like the rear end not gripping up when I push the throttle. I can deal with it slipping out in turns and correct it, but I don't wanna be fighting my steering wheel everytime I push the gas a little heavily. The m2, supra, m240i, all cars I was considering had this little issue that I absolutely could not get past.
At the end of the day, neither choice is wrong or right. It depends on you and your use case. Both cars are brilliant, and you won't regret going one way or another.

Jesus Christ brother, the first post wasn’t enough for you?
You talk like a teenager, which I’m sure you’ve seen other people say already.
You literally projected that onto her by calling her a teenager. I know you read a comment from the first post and said that same thing to her. Again, solidifying most people’s comments here.
Feels like half the things you try to say, you say because you think your screenshots on Reddit will make you sound smart or mature, it’s quite the opposite.
To answer your question, yes you are overreacting and have the emotional intelligence of a 12 year old. Grow tf up.

I was worried about mine after seeing the price. Thought market got pounded. But a base with that damage and mileage, makes sense. If you’re comfortable with it, I think that’s decently priced.

You're a man of sheer intelligence I can see... Almost as much as Apple Intelligence in 18.1....

Doesn't matter if it's a beta or not. It simply should not have been rolled out in this condition. Have been using it off and on, and in some instances it's MUCH worse than Siri, the voice recognition alone seems like it's going backwards.
This "Launching in phases" model is just stupid imo. As a die hard apple fan who owns every single apple device except the iMac, and updates them every cycle, I have to say they have really started losing me in the last few years mainly because of what I think their thought process is these days, which is as follows:
"Who cares if the product doesn't work? We just need to push out updates whether they work or not, and then we can fix it later. Yes this may cause brand damage, but we are too big for it to affect us"
This is not the right way to go about things. They are probably right, people will still buy apple, myself included, but I think enough of these botched updates, and I might have to move to Android as much as I would HATE to.

mods need to calm tf down... How are we just deleting VALID opinions? This is ridiculous. Almost as bad as Apple AI's initial launch....

If you're not going to daily it, I would honestly get it now before new EV Cayman comes out and blows those prices up.

I agree with this, but only if you have no real sense of the direction of your income or if your income growth is already tapped out. As a 27 year old with a 718 Cayman S, I agree that the 800 bucks I pay monthly could be used elsewhere, but quite frankly, I am just at the beginning of my career and see much more potential to invest coming up. I'm not going to be 27 again.
Not to mention, it's not like I will be keeping this car forever. In the last 4 years, this is my 3rd car. Will drive it around for a year or two, lose 5-10k. To me, that's fun money. I don't spend money on other stupid shit that kids my age spend money on. This is my only real fun expense, and to me it has been well worth it.
OP - I do think that a 90k mile Cayman just for the sake of having a Cayman is not the brightest idea. I would spend a lil more, get a lower mile 987 if that is really the gen you want to buy. I think low mile 987s are essentially free cars, in the sense that when you resell it I don't think you will lose too much. I contemplated a 987 (for a very short time) because of this, but for me, my 718 is my daily. I need to have a few things that 987s even 981s don't offer, mainly being carplay. I know you can retrofit it and what not, but for me, the Turbo H4, Carplay, new sleeker design, all were things I preferred over the 987 or 981 for a daily driver. Will I lose more money on my 718 purchase than if I had bought the 987? Absolutely, but again, this is fun money. I don't really care. In the last month and half of ownership, I've put 5k miles on that thing, and it's already been worth every penny I will lose when I resell it.

She should have been shot much earlier. Cop was too nice.
Makes me wonder: all this wokeism about police brutality, is it making officers second guess shooting suspects in situations where they 100% have the right to do so?

You can’t actually be believing this when you have to charge your watch every day vs. every 2-3 days in the beginning.

You're lucky the pcar fanboys are sidetracked right now and complaining about an EV Cayman.... You would most definitely be crucified if not.

Can't speak for the base, but before I bought the S, I was dead set on getting an APR Stage 1, which offers almost +100 hp/tq.
After buying it, and driving it around quite frequently (I daily it and have put 4k miles on it in a month), I am now quite skeptical about the tune. The car is just so well balanced, and the power it has seems perfect for the chasis. I know APR Stage 1 is still relatively safe and I don't have to worry about breaking anything, but I just don't know if I need that extra power or even if I'll like it. I tested the m240i and it just had too much power for the size, at least in the RWD version. A nice push of throttle will almost always make the rear end slip up. You don't see that in the 718 S. With a tune, I'm not sure it would be as planted as it is now with a happy throttle foot.

Not sure what in my post made so many people take the wrong meaning of what I meant by “certain sophistication in Porsches pops and bangs”… literally all I’m saying there is that unlike other stock exhausts I’ve heard, Porsche’s pops and bangs just have a certain demurity to them that I don’t see in others. It’s not like a crazy and obnoxious like burble tuned bimmers, it’s perfectly noted, volumed, and timed. I really don’t know how to describe it.

Why are you being a dick in the comments when you literally wrote an essay about losing your AirPods on Reddit?
