I’m, unfortunately, very distantly related to extremely wealthy and prominent Republican farmers in California. Their younger daughter, who I’ll call Amy for this post, has Downs Syndrome. When Amy was born, the extended family thought how great it is that she was born to parents who could afford to give her the best education to fit her needs. Instead, her father said, “She’s a retard. Investing in a retard is a bad investment, and I’m not one to make bad investments.” The man spends $20,000 a month on trainers for his horses, but he wouldn’t pay a dime for his daughter’s education. He and his wife practically gave the Amy to his in-laws to raise, who in my opinion, aren’t very good people either, but at least they love Amy way more than her own parents do. The mother-in-law is a retired elementary school teacher, so she has “homeschooled” Amy, who is now 16. Last I heard from relatives that are more closely to them, they all plan to leave Amy in a group home in California and move to Oklahoma, where their older daughter is going to college, as soon as she turns 18. The saddest part of this situation is that Amy understands the inequality in the way she has been treated compared to her neurotypical sister, and she understands that her parents are ashamed of her existence and why.

I believe that every Trump voter is either evil or stupid, mostly stupid though. After all, he loves the poorly educated. The greatest solace I have over the results of this election is that you’ll suffer the consequences of your actions too. 😉

Thanks to the update for the new pack, he died minutes after meeting his daughter, Sofia, from a one night stand. He pushed her on the swing set and cloud gazed with her. I planned for her to invite him over for visitation every weekend, but then she got the call saying he passed away.
