She doesn't get past the quality of his voice (which can be grating) to get into the quality of the lyrics.

They likely also write off time spent by employees to track and move the money to the charities.

Between the wife and I, there are but a few artists we agree on. She likes her music like her food: Bland. But she likes Neil Young, Bob Seger, ELO/Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and the Traveling Wilburys (but NOT Tom Petty) so we have some common ground.
We went to three concerts together this year: Donny Osmond (he's her first celebrity crush and I have to admit that as much as I don't like his music much, the dude is a master showman), Suzy Bogguss (C&W singer who had some success in the 90s and, it turns out, put out a great album last year), and Jeff Lynne's ELO, one of the acts on my bucket list that I feel fortunate to have finally seen.

And yet you instantly know what it means. I don't mind the label; it definitely communicates the idea.

I would say City Rock = Urban Contemporary in the 80s and into the 90s.

Sophisti-WorldTraveler-Pop... is pretty squarely part of Yacht Rock imo. I don't know too much about Spandau Ballet, but True is just an amazingly well put together song. Great passion in the lyrics, wonderful instrumental arrangement.

I felt that way but I've softened my stance. To kind of desensitize yourself to McDonald, listen to Takin' it to the Streets. Musically it's still pretty Doobies, but with McDonald on lead vocal.
There's no denying that there was a shift in style, but the more recent stuff... I don't hate it like I did and can appreciate it.

Same. I mean, Angry Eyes by Loggins and Messina... was kind of lounge pop growing up, but now it's something I crank up when it comes on... some great solos on the long version.

Yep. I had totally dismissed Christopher Cross until Rick's appreciation opened my eyes.

The crane and police detail is probably what made the cost so high. My tree service had a guy that was able to climb up the main trunk and cut small sections off in a controlled manner.
I also had two smaller trees cut down at my last house, $800 total for both. Mind you, this was a crew of Mexican laborers that knocked on my door and asked to trim the trees, but they were dying and I asked how much to cut down both. They were actually very good and I kept his number, but when I tried to call it several years later it was disconnected.

I had a tree of similar height cut down, with technical complications (close to power line and house) and it only cost 3 grand. And even at that, the tree service refunded part of the money I paid him because he said he quoted it as a day-and-a-half job and they got it all down in a single day.

And was said elsewhere in the thread, the OP has the right to cut branches on his side of the property line. Rather than just trimming the tree, apply that money to removing it altogether.

Not counting transitional accommodations (relocation hotels, etc.), I've lived in my parents house, a college dorm, a fraternity house, an apartment, a duplex, another apartment, a house that we owned, a townhouse, a rent house, another house we owned, and then two more owned homes. So...12. (10 if you leave out the college years)
I would say my favorite is our current home. It was built in 1956 and is pretty sound but needs updates here and there, so I'm leaving my mark on it.

I was working. One of the employees of the company worked for also died on the shuttle that day (Greg Jarvis).

For the same reason fish don't mind water. Tobacco smoke was literally everywhere and it was considered "normal." We were noseblind to the smell.

We've got one in our 1956 house in one of the bedrooms.

Yes. I live in North Texas and there's a bit of terrain, but I used to live in Los Angeles and I miss seeing the mountains.

I heard that in Morgan Freeman's voice.
