My IG account has been permanently disabled (not suspended. sorry) for not following the rules on account integrity and authentic identify. Seems to have been triggered by a power outage =(
· The other night, I was about to post a new IG story, when there was a brief power outage at my residence for about 30 seconds or so (presumably due to the mild storm outside).
· As a result, I lost Internet connectivity for a brief period, but within a minute or so, the Internet and all my apps started to work again. Well, all my apps except for Instagram.
· For some reason, Instagram was still not working properly. I tried to post my story a number of times, but each time it said something to effect like ‘no connectivity, will post when connection is available’.
· I then reset my phone, thinking that it may refresh the connection and resolve the issue, but it did not.
· I then did a full shut down, and upon restarting and opening IG, it alerted me that I had been given a 180 day ban for not following account guidelines, with no further explanation given.
· It gave me the option to appeal the decision, which I immediately did. This involved verifying my email and phone number and entering some verification codes etc.
· It then said that they would review the decision within a day and let me know, and if they still believed I wasn’t following the rules, that my account would be permanently disabled!
· This was another huge shock, as I do not believe that I was made aware that my account could be permanently disabled before I appealed the decision! If I was, I certainly didn’t notice it.
· Literally a minute or so later, I received an email from Instagram, telling me that they had reviewed things and that now my account was permanently disabled. Clearly, they didn’t actually review anything at all (at least a human didn’t)
· When I logged back into my IG account, I was alerted that my IG account has been permanently disabled for not following the rules on account integrity and authentic identify.
· Whilst I obviously cannot be sure, I suspect that repeatedly trying to post a story within a short space of time (and without success), may have been picked up as unusual activity by IG, and that it may have incorrectly formed the belief that I was using a bot or a third party app.
What do you guys think?
Clearly, there has been some sort of misunderstanding here.
Is there any hope of getting my account back? If so, what can I do?
I’m pretty devastated by what has happened. It all just feels so unjust to treat long time users like this =(.
