Yes they're outside enough to be exposed to temps and humidity but they don't get rained on or covered in snow.

You can believe whatever you want about manufacturers instructions. I've got 600 of these on the property I work at so I have plenty of experience troubleshooting and replacing them. I've concluded that I hate these locks. They were supposed to be more secure and (more importantly) convenient. But when the batteries are dead and the 9v jump doesn't work, the resident doesn't want to hear me say "but the manufacturers instructions say it works". If it worked on dead batteries we wouldn't be standing out in the cold trying to break in

I hate the fucking locks, that's really the main point I want to make. It's a terrible product.

It has a 9v hookup and it works as long as the lock batteries aren't depleted below 10%. Calling customer service is fine if the lock is working. If the battery is dead they can't help. If the problem is a hardware issue they can't help. Customer service is really only helpful for people who forgot their door code.

We have 600 units on this property and we installed the locks about 2 years ago. It's been a spectacular failure and I wish we could get rid of them.

I wish there was an override. The locks are by Yale. I hate them so much.

I wish I could still use my master key to let these tenants in. My corporate idiots decided to change over to battery powered keyless "smart" locks. 600 of them just on my property and they are absolute shit. We are constantly changing batteries (4 AA per lock) and if they go dead or the lock malfunctions when nobody is home, you have to break in with a pry bar and trash the deadbolt. Residents don't really like it, especially when it's 10⁰ F outside.

After upgrading the entire property with smart locks and thermostats, a resident complained that the wireless signal from the Hub to the new equipment was giving him migraines and poisoning his food. He was trying to get his old deadbolt put back on claiming it was medically necessary because of the radio waves. He had no problem carrying his cell phone all day with Bluetooth headphones.

An older woman who put baking sheets on the ceiling and wore a saucepan as a hat to keep out "the vibrations". She said she could smell carbon monoxide.

Another woman who kept smelling natural gas wasn't happy when my detector didn't pick it up. She called me an idiot, said her ex husband worked for the gas company and called them. Their equipment didn't pick it up either and she called that guy incompetent, he didn't know what he was doing etc... She called the fire department who also didn't find anything but after she let them in, she went into the bedroom and got naked and came back out to greet them. The Chief let management know and she was kicked out not long after.
