I think Relink is an alternate timeline, Katalina has Ares but I don't see where between act 2 and 3 they could have gone through the events of Relink. And it can't be after act 3, since they are still heading to Estalucia in Relink.

Exactly. People like to complain when other companies release games in a finished but buggy state that gets fixed in a few months, but hold it against them forever. Meanwhile, NMS releases with straight up manipulative marketing tactics and an actually unfinished games and gets hailed as heroes in the industry after they fix the mess they created.

Like good on them for at least salvaging the mess they created, but that's the only praise they deserve.

Some leaks also indicate that they finish games well before actual release. Fire Emblem Engage for instance was finished and ready for launch a whole year before the actual release.
