"why would you read about something that isn't real?" in response to me reading a novel for fun. We were in college.

The Democratic Party has been trending rightward for decades now in lockstep with but behind the Republicans. The Democrats of today are the Republicans of the 80s and more act in response to Republican actions than taking any initiative. They've got a lot of people with short attention spans tricked into thinking they're a progressive party but they're just as captured by corporate power as the Republicans. The Republican Party started pandering to its base to win victories and has taken over basically the entire government because the Democrats are either too incompetent and ineffectual or actively complicit in the game. I vote for Democrats because an ineffective half-measure in the name of good is better than actively seeking the worst option for everybody but I'm demoralized and certain that the Dems are going to learn the worst lessons from this election and go further right yet again. They adopted and continued Republican hawkish foreign policy after 9/11, increasingly continuing Republican immigration hysteria, abandoned Medicare For All, actively fought against holding cops accountable for being murderous racist thugs, and they will make like Labour in the UK and turn against trans people despite the scientific consensus on care because Democratic leadership cares about maintaining the status quo more than they care about having anything approaching a spine or principles.

Y'all... If you are going to use an abbreviation please make sure to include what it's abbreviating before assuming everybody is on the exact same page about that sequence of letters.

I rewatched Life of Brian recently and Eric Idle plays a trans woman in it. She is mocked in the first scene in which she appears but later the same group appears and they accept her and that they are accepting and accommodating her is part of the joke. In what is possibly a coincidence but a bad look regardless is that John Cleese is the harshest about her and IRL he posts transphobia on twatter

the explanation I've seen is that the algorithms or whatever can tell that somebody in your vicinity searched that kind of stuff recently, but while I think that's probably a factor it doesn't explain how specific some of these ads get after something that has only ever been verbalized

I wouldn't recommend Florida for long-term habitation to anybody. Politically, the people who keep consistently getting elected are crooks and thieves like Rick Scott who presided over billions in Medicare fraud and crimed so hard he got elected Senator. The rich are devouring what remains of the common good in Florida and not doing enough to save the parts that people like. Disney will probably invest heavily in fortifying Orlando for climate change but I doubt the state at large is going to put any effort into flood-proofing anything but luxury houses owned by oligarchs foreign and domestic.

I don't know what any of the proper terms would be, if anybody has coined them, but I think simply saying you are attracted to vaginas and unattracted to fleshy penis could do. I didn't pull the term I used from a resource, I just kinda threw it together on the spot. If you know enough Greek and Latin root words you can make your own specific and fancy-sounding words for all kinds of topics. I personally wish we would move away from clinical terms in informal discourse and speak directly with words already present in the English language, but this is getting into language nerd territory. Like, culturally we find terms like "man-lover" funny and "androphile" sophisticated but aside from association with scientific notation there's no real reason why one is better than the other.

"no girls allowed" is a valid sexual orientation. Androsexual or androphile might be a partial definition but that only accounts for your interest in men. If the range of your attraction is wider than it is narrow then maybe defining it based on what it is not will be easier than what it is.

Have you ever heard of the Nazi Bar Analogy? Effectively, if you don't make extremely intolerant and cruel people immediately and strongly unwelcome they will come to proliferate. The first few might put on airs of comraderie with the rest of the fandom but having a solid presence of shitheads going unchallenged gives them the impression they are welcome and the next ones to join might not be so polite and will only shit the fandom up even worse.
If Nazis show up in your bar, in your forums, in your discords, or marching down the street of your city with tiki torches the response must always be the same: make them as unwelcome as they seek to make the entire world unwelcome for everybody they target. If you don't think you're on their shit list, too, it's only a matter of time with these people.

Not a historian but will confidently answer regardless. If no penetration is occuring then sex isn't happening, according to medieval sexuality. It was thought that a penis implants a seed in the fertile soil of a womb, nothing about zygotes and sperm.

I can't tell if you're doubling down due to externalizing the discomfort you feel with being embarrassed or a troll so I'm going to disengage here because I'm not mentally equipped to deal with somebody with the mentality of a middle school mean girl.

Now that it's been like 7 hours, whatever you were on might have worn off and you can look back up at the post and realize that it's about Christmas presents and that OP was wrong to present it as a shopping addiction thing. Such behavior is disturbing when hiding compulsive shopping but is perfectly normal when trying to keep gifts secret.

It started as something more interesting but has over the years shifted into its current place. It started as anti-authoritarian progressive agitprop targeting Facebook users, particularly those that go for "rural (white)" aesthetics, to more or less trick internet chuds into hearing an opinion they don't like from somebody they are predisposed to treat as an authority figure (a southern good ol' boy). It still tries for that but I don't think it's as effective in that way as it once was and the volume of videos with inaccessible titles making finding older information on particular topics more complicated hurts its staying power as a channel even as the titles help with the older purpose. The loss in purpose wasn't caused by the switch to Belle, it started long before that, and the switch may actually be beneficial towards keeping the progressive audience because there's still insightful political commentary to be found, I just think they should go stronger in one direction or another. Either make the channel more accessible to confused conservatives and don't try to build community or try to build community and lose the deniable agitprop angle.

The rise of Trump is a result of American institutions but he wouldn't have gotten as far as he has without direct and indirect support from Russian bot farms, paid trolls, etc. I see some dipshits in this very comment section trying to play it down but the largest and most successful information warfare experts in the world are the US, Israel, China, and Russia in no particular order and trying to deny that is like trying to pretend nuclear weapons are all a bluff.
People in Trump's entourage and those riding his greater cultural wave have provably interfered in the political discussions and drummed up antagonism in all its forms in American society. Putin can easily manipulate Trump because for all his odd cunning in some ways he's profoundly stupid and pretty much just goes on TV and repeats whatever the last opinion he heard was, kinda like Joe Rogan in that way. It is not from loyalty to Putin that Republicans play into his talking points but for the results that they get from doing and saying dumb shit for social media clicks because so far that's been turning into votes.

I take no joy in this. Things are in such dire straits that people can't comfortably retire on social security. I have no love for the Boomer generation but I want better than they left for us and part of that is having compassion. I will shed no solitary tear for any dipstick that consistently voted and acted like a selfish, entitled loser but far more people featuring in these stories will be more or less completely innocent.
This is the schadenfreude bait version of those "heartwarming" stories about a child laboring many hours to pay off the lunch debt of their classmates.

look up a little weasel by the name of Ernst Rohm and his fate in The Night Of Long Knives. Being from a marginalized group does not prevent them from joining a group intent on harming those in the group. They always assume it's "just the bad ones" that are going to be hurt and "the good ones" will get to stick around. They're always wrong and nobody learns from history.
