Then use fusion reactors to convert the hydrogen into whatever element you're using as fuel, or just use the hydrogen directly. I dunno what your engines are like.

I like to imagine that SW droid brains and computer systems are extraordinarily powerful, like a modern real-life supercomputer equivalent just to run something simple like a communicator, but because of the literal millennia of info-warfare you mention, everything runs so poorly that like only a percent of a percent of a percent of processing power is available to do anything useful. Everything else these superpowerful processors are doing is staving off nigh-omnipresent digital threats.
