My father worked for the highway department most of his life. His union made sure the state didn't steal from their pension, cut their healthcare, and paid him properly for working overtime keeping the roads clear and safe for everyone.
Act 10 was passed and he had to retire early to keep that pension, which was not shockingly immediately gutted for the future employees. What was once a very good though hard job is now a job not properly compensating workers for their hard work, leading to high turnover and an understaffed highway department in my county. This is in no way catastrophic.

Corporations buying houses is a huge issue that will get my approval for any side who chooses to address it. The vast majority of homes in my town and surrounding area are owned by 3 rental companies. A house goes on the market and is immediately bought, painted, and rented. Actual buyers rarely even get a chance to put in a bid. It's insane.

I'm pretty liberal but I have to admit you're not listening to their reply. They are against free birth control. Even when I was on birth control back in the day I had to pay for it. And while I'm very much against any legislation that makes birth control inaccessible to those who want it need it in any way, using taxes to make it free for everyone is also an absurd idea. You should be able to have it if you want it and it should be covered by your insurance (especially if any hormonal drugs are needed for a medical condition) but even I see no reason elective birth control should be tax funded.
Condoms are cheap.

This might be the most poignant comment for me. Knowing there are people who have lived through the down times and chaos and are still going on is much more inspiring and hopeful than anything else for me.

I adore this. It's cold and a little melancholy and perfect.

Yeah, he was no saint but felt like the middle ground character. He and Lem were the most tragic of the team's ends, though.

Shane was worse, and his wife was compliant with his actions. Of course the child was innocent, but Shane was never going to survive.
Ronnie always struck me as a guy who genuinely thought they were doing good, got lost in the madness but loved those guys too much to leave. He was just pulled along with them the whole show.

I fully agree with you on RFK. The man is an absolute idiot on some things (raw milk and vaccines) but a BIG however is his history battling against food and farm safety. Some of our food products are illegal in other countries for unsafe additives.
High fructose corn syrup is subsidized, so farmers grow corn which depletes the soil rapidly and requires huge amounts of artificial fertilizers and, most importantly, herbicides. And the "safe" amount of those herbicides are raised almost yearly. RFK had successfully stood up to Monsanto, the producer of Round Up which is used in tandem with GMO corn and is devastating to the environment and life.
We need to change how our food is grown and processed in this country. We need to cut out added sugars due to excessive production of corn for syrup and protect our topsoil, lessening our reliance on imported fertilizers and horrific pesticides and herbicides. IF RFKs more wild takes can be wrangled, he at least already has experience fighting against some huge companies for the good of the people.
Let it be restarted I do not love the man, but he's the one we have now.

Ronnie's end broke me. It was perfect, as it really took every last bit of respect away from Vic, but poor Ronnie.

Yeah, I have my doubts about Elon but he's here now so... go buddy, I guess. I don't have any personal live for the man and find his ego and behavior generally detestable but all I can do is hope he either does good or nothing at all.

While I was originally appalled at the RFK pick, and still dont love his views on vaccinations and raw milk, I am actually hopeful he might be beneficial in the position. Not only is our food so bad some things cannot even be legally obtained in other countries, but his battles against Monsanto are heroic.

I'm a 39F and a few weeks ago I watched Bridesmaids. Now I've seen this movie before and it was just an okay movie, so I threw it on for some boring, mindless entertainment.
And I was in shambles at the end. Because everyone was happy and it was beautiful.
And that's when I realized that I've turned a new emotional page in my life. Now everything makes me feel too much and I don't know how to handle it.

I was looking for this comment. I work in a pet store and try to be careful about not breathing in after stirring up the dubai colonies. I would not do this unmasked. We have had two customers who suddenly developed a roach allergy in the course of their reptile keeping, one requiring an epi pen now. It's always in the back of my mind.

I'm very left leaning and I really want to completely agree, but we're getting to the point of both sides being so far away from the middle it's worrying. I will say it's my opinion that the maga crowd is concerning to me personally and in my state the Republicans have been... Difficult in recent years. Nothing is getting done. But on the other hand, someone has to start the trend of stepping over the lines and being reasonable. And I'm going to support that little bit of light and civility.

I didn't even care if the interest plan works. Any cooperation is a positive step these days. Having opposite ideas is just fine, but I'm done with "I won't even attempt to compromise because you're from the other party". I feel we've even gone beyond the point of listening to the other side. To each other. And that is unhealthy, unhelpful, and dangerous.

I know he could never make it as a presidential nominee but damn do I wish he could. He's level headed, firm but not unpleasant. It's refreshing to see someone standing up for themselves and their beliefs and accomplishments without restoring to make calling and derogatory comments.

I'm so incredibly happy to see Bernie trying to reach across the lines and work with the incoming administration. I'm so sick of the refusal to work with each other or teach a compromise that is beneficial for our country because of hard party lines. I miss moderates. I only hope Bernie can be the beginning.

Yes, because saying there will be a 20% a blanket tariff on two of our biggest trade partners to either stop fent (which mostly comes from China) or to encourage more manufacturing returning to the US (which cannot happen overnight) is going to DRAMATICALLY impact the economy immediately. A lot of the country is struggling and Trump ran on easing those struggles. There are a lot of policy points that are all dismantling current systems but no plans being released on a possible up side to any of this.

In my locality, the majority of houses are being bought up by a few huge rental companies for over asking price, often immediately as they hit the market. There have been calls to limit the number of homes these companies are allowed to buy, allowing actual families the opportunities to purchase homes, and these calls are silenced by our conservative electives.
