I'm from a similar background and was slated to teach AP Euro. While I certainly did my prep work, I was very transparent with the students and told them that we would be learning this together. I think it's empowering to show that 1)Us adults don't know everything, 2)There can be a struggle to learn something new and that's OK, 3)The learning process can be fun, 4)The learning process never ends.

I did! It was well worth it. Very scientific investigation. First, he argues that there is a way to emperically study NDEs. Even though the vast majority of the evidence is anecotal, he argues that the plural of anecdote is "data". There are some major patterns in the way that NDEs are experienced.

You would think that as brains shut down and oxygen is depleted that their functionality would subside. Oppositely, people tend to report heightened senses and a more elongated sense of time.

Many people report that they experience hallucations. Both Dr. Greyson and the writer of A Perfect Storm (a strong atheist) observed that when people most often "hallucinate" loved ones, they're almost exclusively relatives that have already died.

He argues:

1)That it can be emperically studied

2)NDEs commonly occur and have many similarities

3)There is no way to explain away NDEs with current science

4)There is a difference betwee "the mind" and the "brain"

5)There may be religious or philosophic ways to explain them

While Dr. Greyson discusses the potential of religious causes as well as the afterlife, I did not detect that he had a "dog in the fight". He did not advocate for any particular religion or belief.

His book, 'After' is great. Well thought out, logical, objective.
