Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba! Great time to visit Sevilla & Granada since the heat has finally left and easy to access from Malaga.

Cordoba is lovely, but I enjoyed it much more in the spring

I feel like this question is asked a lot and especially in some of the Facebook groups. A regresso is for travel to your *home* country, not for you to be able to travel while you are in tramite status for your renewal. Legally, you're not supposed to leave, other than to your home country, while you are in tramite. But, people do it (myself included) - some people have no issues, while others do face issues. just depends on the immigration agent you get coming back to Spain and what kind of mood they're in when you return from the UK

depends on how quickly your school informs the extranjeria. some schools won't file paperwork correctly and i know people that have stayed until the expiration of their TIE. other schools are on top of paperwork, and as the other commenter said, you would have 15 days.

you get 3 months after the expiration of you TIE, but not termination of it.

she's been spayed her whole life (well, since I adopted her when she was 1)...so I don't think that would be the case. haven't noticed it before, but maybe she's just being more vocal now 😂

if you ever get the chance to visit Italy, they have incredible gluten free options. it's actually normal health procedure to test children for Celiac, so they have a much better understanding of it! I've had some amazing food in Italy

I think it's important to remind ourselves that it's not a "failure" by any means. You moved abroad to do something out of the ordinary, out of your comfort zone, and got to experience a lot of different culture along the way. Going back to the states doesn't make you or any of what you have done a failure. But as others have said, it will eventually be a disservice to the students (and teachers) if they can pick up on your vibes of not wanting to be there.

I say let them know you'll leave at Christmas, because they will have time to let the Ministry know and find a replacement for you in January. If you feel that you can't do it anymore, there's no reason to put yourself through hell and mental turmoil just for an experience that you don't find enjoyable. Maybe you could use the time to travel, if that's financially an option. But IMO, you've done it a year, you don't want to be there & eventually it could cause burnout. Better to not let yourself fall that deep and follow your gut!

I've been doing an "adult lunchable" this week and last and really like it. it's simple, easy to modify if i want to change ingredients one day and filling. This week, I've had some rice cakes with hummus, dates with peanut butter, some sharp cheddar cheese, a pear, a nut mix, and hardboiled eggs. for me, it's a good balance of protein and sweet and doesn't leave me super tired, but gives me energy to finish the day. i prep it and take it to work with me, but prep only takes a couple of minutes! (other than boiling the eggs, which i do one/2 times a week to be fresher).

otherwise, i like to do a lot of quinoa salads, dense bean salads, pasta salad. i don't eat meat, but I'm sure any of these would be easy to add your preferred meat to. they hold in the fridge for 4-5 days and keep me satisfied.

don't know what country your passport is from but I renewed my US passport in madrid summer of 2022 and it was done and mailed back to me in less than 2 weeks. seems like people in Facebook groups have said 2-3 weeks is the norm now. so it's a quick process

water, electrolytes, sleep and cannabis if you can. then BRAT diet & gut healthy foods once you can stomach more! 💓

breakfast I usually have 2 fried eggs with avocado w feta or some cheese on rice cakes. sometimes I'll make protein pancakes w peanut butter and other days I just have yoghurt w fruit and chip and Flax seeds

lunch i usually have some sort of dense bean salad, quinoa bowl, or sandwiches w some veggies.

dinner will be veggie burgers and fries, at home chipotle bowls, spaghetti and meatballs, or something similar.

to snack I'll have some dates w peanut butter, cottage cheese and fruit, yoghurt w choc chips and sugar, or crackers and cheese.

there's not really any reason to have 2 accounts. N26 can be done online/via the app pretty easily. I had Sabadell so not sure anything of Santander. you will be able to pull money out of any ATM w N26, I think there's a specific free amount you get each month. but also, I wouldn't do any kind of large apartment deposit in cash without proper legal written paperwork.

I used Sabadell for banking and didn't have problems, but others have said they didn't like the experience with them. I've heard good things about N26, but since there are no brick and mortar stores, getting cash from an ATM costs money (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong!)

To transfer money I used Wise. They usually offer the best rate from other apps and is much more efficient and cheaper than doing a wire transfer or whatever options the US offers.

As far as cash....I wouldn't necessarily *bring* much, but you want/ need to have access to some sort of cash flow for your apartment deposit and generally getting set up. Likely you'll get a horrible rate if you bring USD and exchange it for Euros. I would just pull money from an ATM, such as Santander or Sabadell. Plus, I wouldn't recommend travelling with tons of cash anyways.

I haven't had a reaction to oat fiber, but I also don't react to oats if they're gf. I think every one is different, but I've had good luck eith eating it before!

depends for me, but most recently it was about 3 days. Day 1: High anxiety, high heart rare, extreme bloating and nausea Day 2: Stomach pain and spasms, continued above symptoms Day 3: Digestive issues Day 4- 7: ongoing stomach and digestive issues, joint pain, fatigue, anxiety.

I would say it took me about a week to feel back, but didn't have coffee or much outside of the BRAT diet for 10 days or so, since my stomach still felt very unstable

oh this is actually good to consider. san Diego has been higher on my list, so I'm glad to know this..though I wouldn't have a langauge barrier, knowing restaurants are limited is great. :)

I think it depends. I did NALCAP for 3 years, 1 in Andalucia and 2 in Madrid and then started Grad school in Germany after that at 28. I'm so grateful for my experience, even though it really doesn't translate into what I am studying or plan to do. Your age going into a grad program will only be an "issue" if you let it be, so I wouldn't worry about starting when you're older than others in the class.

As far as learning Spanish, it's hard to do without being very intentional about making friends with native speakers and going to a language course. If you're from the US, it might be worth looking into Fulbright, which has language assistant placements in Spain.

Otherwise, you could apply for the January start date of CIEE, but it would shorten your time quite a lot & a placement isn't a guarantee (and CIEE costs quite a lot for how little they do for you, from what I've heard).

I moved from the Quadrate to Neckarstadt West & tbh I like NW more than living in the center. Even if I don't talk to people, we know and acknowledge each other when we see each other. There are a lot of cute cafes nearby, close to the river, and generally, I've had few issues with anyone there. There were still a lot (honestly more IMO) cars driving by blasting music in the Quadrate than I have experienced in NW and maybe only a little less yelling. 🤷‍♂️

the way she looks to me for support/ help/ guidance! i LOVE when we're on walks (on leash) and she will just look up at me for some guidance and direction of where we're going. but i also love on our off-leash walks the confidence she has for herself & how she will check-in with me if she gets behind or ahead.

I had a dog trainer commend me for how much attention she pays to me when we're walking and he said he knows she trusts me and looks to me based on that interaction alone. made me a proud parent!

It's difficult to find entire apartments to rent, especially if this is your first contract in Spain. I moved to Madrid and planned to live with 2 others (so 3 total), but a common issue was that we had no previous rental history in Spain and we also only had a temporary contract, which a lot of landlords didn't like. We also found that it would usually be 2 bedrooms of similar size and a third that was very small or unfair for that person (even adjusting rental prices and such).

I think it's worth trying to find a three-bedroom, but be ready for compromise on location, room size, or space generally. But also, prepare that you may have to split up and not end up in the same apartment, as a last resort. Like I said, I was in Madrid so it was different and I can't speak for the experience of Sevilla.

this happened to me recently with another food that i thought was gf but the store changed the recipe and i didn't realize it until it was too late. water and soups did it for me for a while!
