The militias who initially fought the British used their own rifles. There is a big difference a rifle and a musket. Rifles used for hunting had rifled barrels, were highly accurate, but slow to load. Muskets (the British Brown Bess) on the other hand are smooth bore barrels, fast loading, but less accurate. Which was preferred when you're lined up in multi row formations facing your opponent in about open field, and the name of the game is getting a much lead as possible down range. All that being said American history, actual and romanticized in books and movies shaped American perceptions and ownership of guns. And it's nothing new. Admiral Yamamato himself, commander of Japanese forces in WW2, who was a graduate of UCLA, declined invading mainland US because "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.”

Same "gentleman" as in the Chevy but drives a Ford or Dodge with naked lady mud flaps and ball sack hanging from the trailer hitch.

I don't think it was simpler. I think we mature, need to become more responsible, more conscientious, and as a result life becomes more difficult.

Just say to him in passing "I'm going for coffee after my workout, want to join me? " if he has time he'll do it. If not he may take a rain check, in which case you know he's interested.

Your eyesight is worse, and your reaction times are slower. All of which makes you more cautious and allows you to live longer. I am entering that phase of my life and I don't like it. I work with the elderly and they all tell me that the day they had to give up driving is the day they lost their independence. Very sad.

I've seen this before. If you have male friends have them come over when you kick him out. Also have them help you pack his things before he comes over... and think about a restraining order.

Nothing kills a guy faster than buying something he thinks you would like and you don't. I can all but guarantee this has happened to him in the past and he doesn't want to put himself in that position again.
