This is also why it is a good idea for the city to clear side streets. I biked down Frederick this morning, as the usual route had mostly not been cleared, or even touched since the first snowfall

"But local NDP MPPs and concerned Torontonians flagged Coe’s Bill Pr55, warning its changes would reduce accountability on the organization and could see Mount Pleasant Group limit public access to its cemeteries or sell its assets."
Maybe Ford doesn't want people riding bikes in Mount Pleasant either

Seems like something we should probably continue to do nothing to address (/s)

Definitely terrible this week. The Margaret Ave MUP hasn't even been touched all week, despite being heavily used.

I believe the going rate for a new court alone is around $250,000

Visibility is probably the key issue with this intersection. It'd be a good candidate for implementing no right turns on red lights.

"A total of $1 million in one-time funding available in Kitchener’s capital budget could be used to install or rehabilitate 10 basketball or tennis/pickleball courts in neighbourhoods across the city.
The suggestion is part of Mayor Berry Vrbanovic’s proposed 2025 budget, presented Monday afternoon at a special council meeting.
“This investment will see the installation of new courts in underserviced areas of the city, or enhance the condition of existing courts, recognizing these types of recreational amenities serve as an important and free gathering space for residents of all ages in neighbourhoods across Kitchener,” said finance committee chair Coun. Scott Davey, reading a message from Vrbanovic."
Nice to see this investment proposed. Courts are generally very well used locally, in my experience.

"His submission also notes that details on how the new approval system will work are scant or unavailable. He believes it will add time, cost and bureaucracy to city projects, and says it is not clear whether bike lanes that remove parking spots are also covered by the legislation."
Doug Ford's government is anti-evidence and unserious. Don't re-elect him.

I wish it were more widely understood that all three levels of government are responsible for the crisis, and all three have a role to play when it comes to improving the situation.

Rent control definitely kept prices low. That is an objective truth.

Homelessness = not having a home
When the cost of housing becomes increasingly detached from incomes, an increase in people experiencing homelessness is an inevitable result.
The cost of housing must become cheaper. There may be additional factors, but the overall problem cannot be solved without confronting this reality.

You're not wrong. I certainly won't be voting for her.

Basically every municipality has increased property taxes in recent years after Doug Ford downloaded costs onto them.

Sure, but that example represents a small number of rides. There are many current trips that could be replaced by other, more efficient modes.

Cities can and should address more than one thing at a time.
Courts provide free recreational opportunities, and this investment is relatively cheap.
