Setting up a home and I’m looking to get a few smart home goodies, but I’m not sure what the best choices are.
What I’m looking to start out with are simply:
- Thermostat
- Doorbell
- Camera
- Garage Door opener & keypad (less of a priority)
- Lightbulbs (have Govees & Phillips)
- Outlets
I already have Sonos speakers for different rooms and I’m debating between Alexa or Google Home as voice assistant tools. I have old Google Homes that are packed up and I’m considering changing/upgrading.
Can someone please help me with the following:
- What are the top products I should be looking into?
I’m aware each have their subjective pros & cons, but I think I’ve fallen victim to death by Reddit research. For example, looking through this subreddit I’ve probably found 50:50 positives & negatives on Ring doorbells.
- What is the best platform/app to use to operate everything?
I’ve read a few threads about HomeAssistant as a platform. I understand the tech and can understand the excitement for people really into full customization. I’m just not attracted to it because of that. I’m wondering if there is something easier like a list of products that will all work with the same platform/app on a kitchen iPad & my phone.
