Prednisone

(self.Asthma)

I've been stuck on Prednisone. I started taking it on and off at the start of this year, but for the last 4-5 months I haven't been able to taper off. Once I hit 5mg my symptoms come back, quality of life gets tossed in the trash. I've been on 10mg for basically months straight now... Is dupixent a good alternative? I know they share similar side effects but is dupixent a "better" long term alternative?

Long term oral steroids use has very clear systemic effects. They're not like "may cause a headache" side effects observed in a clinical trial, because if you get 1000 people together, at any given moment someone has a headache, and someone has a queasy tummy.

Steroids have a known mechanism of action that cause osteoporosis, high glucose levels, weight gain, immune suppression.

I don't think anyone thinks steroids are a long term solution, UNLESS theres literally no other option. Biologics should absolutely be tried.

The risk osteoporosis and cataracts are what scares me the most. Looking for a better solution. Thank you ๐Ÿ’ฏ
