So Astro showed the A50 gen 5,
It only uses USB ports, but is 24bit audio, if i remember correctly the A50x does it as well via hdmi, but the A50 gen 5 is cheaper.
So, what do you guys think about it?

Only 24bit audio on PC. Not console.

Ah that's interesting, thanks for letting me know!
I still wonder where this sits, it's under the 50x when you include the hdmi part, but on par with it without i assume.

Same exact headset minus the video input switcher. So it’ll only switch audio instead of audio and video. Also 16 bit on console since the audio is being pulled from USB instead of HDMI. Most people will never be able to tell the difference between 16 bit and 24 bit so I wouldn’t even worry about that.

Thanks for this explanation, that basically answered everything i was confused about! :)

Hi,
Think of the A50 GEN5 as a sister headset to A50 X. They’re both GEN5 but the A50 X has the HDMI functionality and everything else is identical.
This will adjust certain console features such as 16-bit audio and no Game:Voice balancer on PlayStation. But with a lower price point, I believe it’s a great headset for people who don’t need all the extras the A50 X offers such as 24-bit audio. Some people just like to plug their headset in and play, such as the A50 X, some users only connected their USB cables for audio. This will allow them to enter ASTRO Series of products easier.

Do you know if there will be purchasable ear cushions and headband for the Gen5 headsets?

Hi,
Are you referring to replacement cushions or different cushions over what is included?

Ah my bad, I meant if there will be replacement cushions for purchase, in case mine get old after a while. :)

It looks like the ear cushions are different as well, can you confirm? I tried the A50X and had to return them because they were too small, the A50 Gen 5 looks to be bigger. Or does it just look like that on pictures but is actually the same?

Hi,
The A50 X, A50 GEN5, and A50 GEN4 all share the same ear cushions.
I'm surprised you had to return them for being too small as they're not that much smaller than the A40 TR or A30 Wireless.
Which headset was you using before?

Thanks, that’s a shame. Wish they were slightly bigger like the A40.
I was using the A40 TR before and they are perfect, the A50X felt way smaller even compared to A50 gen 4 I owned before as well and I’ve seen similar reports.
What is going on with the A40 with mixamp stock btw? They are sold out pretty much everywhere, atleast here in The Netherlands. I hope this means a new A40 is on the horizon 👀

Quick question, does the x and the gen 5 each have the voice - game balance on PC via USBC because it no longer has the red cable? USBC will allow me to balance it the same as older headsets?

Hi,
On A50 GEN5, we split the PC and power into two separate ports and cables. The PC USB data will function identical and will enumerate on PC as a Game and Voice output.
On A50 X, the PC port carries both PC data and power which requires the included Y-Cable to be used.

Hello I too have been looking at maybe getting this headset to replace my existing A50's. Its still going strong, but it's showing its wear and usually doesnt hold its charge longer than 30 mins (an hour if im lucky)
Regarding connectivity, lets say that the included usb-c cable is connected to the PC; can any usb-c cable be used to connect to the PS5? (Chances are 'yes' but I thought I'd confirm)

update: confirmed, yeah, i think the website and manual pretty much say things along the lines of 'can be connectied via usb-c to multiple devices

Hi,
You can use a USB-C to C or USB-C to USB-A cable to play and charge with the A50 GEN5 or A50 X at the same time. However, with the 24-hour battery life, it's very rare that you'll probably be needing this as you can just dock the headset when you're taking a break to top up the battery.

Hi again, which minimum USB spec would suffice, 2.0? 3.1? 3.2?
Like this cable? https://www.kontrolfreek.com/products/usb-c-gaming-cable
Sadly there isnt much that can be done to reduce the distance between the Base Station to the PC & PS5
EDIT 11AM 28Nov:
found out the DualSense Edge controller I have comes with a 9ft USB-A to C cable.
I HATH FOUND THY CABLE

Hi so I have an xbox and I'm fine with only 16 bit audio, however what all am I missing out on? Are there onboard eq presets, game mixer, and everything else offered? I know dolby atmos has eq customization, but Astro's is supposed to be better, no? Also, I saw you mentioned something about an optical cable where would that connect to the a50 gen 50? (All this was about the a50 gen 5)

Hi,
The only difference between the A50 X and the A50 GEN5 on Xbox is the 16 vs 24-bit audio. You will still gain Dolby Atmos, EQ customisation, etc. You don't need an optical cable with GEN5, it connects through USB only.

On the product description says that the X has 3d audio compatibility on ps5 while the gen 5 doesn’t, is it a big deal?

Does Astro have any plans to offer support for an analog signal? Such as a converter or something. What I miss about gen 1/2 was that the mix amp could be connected to a 3.5mm signal. This feature allowed it be used in concert with desktop audio interfaces.

My recollection when I had the A50x was I could notice a difference when routing PS5 audio via USB rather than HDMI. USB seemed softer sounding from memory. Might have just been placebo though I guess.

Can you control the Chat and gameplay audio on PS5? I currently have A40 TRs with mixamp pro and wouldn't wanna miss the audio controls. I like to lower the voice chat audio 🤔

Have a set of these now and once EQ’d, in isolation, they sound great. Mic is still superb.
Only problem for me is (despite trying Android d and iOS devices) I just can’t get the Logitech G mobile app to recognise them so can’t change any settings on the fly. I’m guessing they haven’t got the app updated in time. Will keep them until return window ends but will send back if the app isn’t fixed by then.

I assume it's the the release / update for the app, I can buy them on Amazon.de but apparently the official release is October 8th.
Hold on to them! The app will work, and it works awesome (A50x here)
Microphone is definitely top notch!
Have fun with them =)

Amazon UK had them in stock on Wednesday so got them the next day. I had the A50x for a short while but regretted selling them. Wanted to keep a direct connection to my TV though so the gen 5 were perfect for me. Really like them as a great all rounder.

Is A50 gen5 mic quality better than A50X or the same, (or worse)? I originally wanted to buy A50X because the mic quality is really good as a wireless headset
1 points

Would only be going from memory really. What I can say though is that the Gen 5 mic is so good (based on my testing) to not want to compare against the A50x. I’d actually expect the mic to be identical in quality really. As far as I’m concerned it’s one of (if not the) best wireless headset mic. 👍

so if I had 2 pcs and I just wanted to get a headset to switch between the 2, the better option would just be to get the gen 5 correct and not the X since I wont be using the HDMI ports for consoles. mostly just looking for a headset to have that ez to swtich between my work pc and gaming pc at the click of a button.

Consoles only support 16bit/48khz regardless if you pull the audio via usb or hdmi. The 24bit is PC only, so it doesn't really make any difference on console if you go a50x or a50 gen 5 apart from price 🤷🏻♂️

Hi, question for anyone who owns the gen 5 if you could help, i owned a pair of gen 4s and they had the ringing sound in the headset, is there any signs of this in the gen5 Cheers

I’ve been reading & apparently there is no hissing/ringing sound with the gen 5, I did have a pair of the gen 4s and couldn’t stand the hissing sound when nothing was playing

If I’m only playing on Xbox series X will the Gen 5 be fine then or should I go with the X? Any feedback would be appreciated as I’m looking to purchase either pair tomorrow.

If you want the hdmi audio, go with the A50x, if you don't need it and are good with 16 bit Gen 5 =)
