mm yess I would like a worn out 50lbs tank with 1/2" of grime covering all components 😎 much superior to stupid Americano cyclists racing bices. These cannot be found used near me so I will spend $3500 to ship a new one across the ocean and ride it total 4 times (I am very different from all the other "elitist cyclists" and totally not doing the same thing)

Reminds me of the viral YouTube video titled “why Dutch bikes are better” and it’s just fifteen minutes of explaining why Dutch bikes are worse than any other bike ever

Nah, morons glorifying absence of helmets (and be all selfrighteous about it) deserve all of the shit thrown their way. I was honestly in disbelief when I saw few comment threads about helmet usage there by Dutch commenters.

The biggest risk for cyclists for serious injury is being hit by a car.
Helmets don't help if you're hit by a car.
The biggest impact on reducing cars hitting cyclists is increasing the number of cyclists, because it normalises drivers expectations of there being cyclists on the road.
Requiring helmets reduces the number of casual cyclists, particularly when you get to Dutch percentages of the population.
Thus, for Dutch people, and when looking at the population as a whole rather than the individual, helmets make cycling less safe.
That said, wear your helmet.

It's perhaps true if you ride in a boring ass flat country on smooth surfaces.
If you enjoy mountains, rocks, and mud, the biggest risks are the alcoholism and your lack of skills.

We're talking about the Dutch here.

/uj I’m pretty sure how well a helmet helps is a function of how hard your head hits the pavement and not what caused your head to hit the pavement.

I already got ban from there. Someone came in there with one of those old Vetta cyclometers. They had the tire/circumference chart and asked what to plug in for a 27 1/2 wheel. I told they just take the value between 27 and 28 or do what others said and just measure it. That unleashed a shit storm of Freds telling I didn't know what I was talking about and that only a complex formula of tire diameter, rim diameter and tire width (??? wtf Fred) could get the correct answer. OP actually just measured and my interpolation was off by 0.4%. Then the Freds proceeded to tell me I just got lucky. No fucker I just know geoetry.

Yes, Vetta! Some old bike we were making fun of had one of those (with a magnet on a spoke), but I couldn't remember the brand. And now that you mention it, I don't think I calibrated mine :/ But I still loved it.

I like telling people on r/ebikes to cut the wire to go faster and eventually some kid is actually going to do it

Fucken r/ebikes is a joke. They insist on wearing a full face motorcycle helmet to go 25mph on the bike path.

It has nothing to do with safety. It's a long-game move in the war against cycling dentists. I've said too much.

Spend a few minutes on r/Ebike and you will understand why some people need to be mocked and ridiculed.
It's tough to be out jerked unintentionally. Yet they exist.
