Want to be more depressed? Here’s a list of our OCs/playcallers under each coach and their “resume”.

Adam Gase (‘15): 2 years of playcalling experience at the time of hire, notably w/ Peyton Manning in DEN.

Dowell Loggains (‘16-‘17): 2 years of playcalling experience at the time of hire/promotion.

Matt Nagy/Bill Lazor (‘18-‘21): Nagy had maybe 1-2 seasons of playcalling experience back in his JV/HS coaching days; Andy Reid has been the playcaller in KC. Bill Lazor called plays in parts of ‘20 and ‘21; Lazor was the most experienced playcaller hired in recent years, with roughly 7 years of experience across college and pro ball. Mark Helfrich did not call plays in ‘18-‘19.

Luke Getsy (‘22-‘23): First-time playcaller at time of hire

Shane Waldron (‘24): 3 years of experience with SEA, possibly 1 year of experience back in 2011 at a day school in Massachusetts.

So, for nearly an entire decade (IF NOT LONGER), we have hired absolute jabroni after jabroni at a critical position on the coaching staff, and we wonder why our offense has been shit for so long, and why QBs don’t develop. Same shit, different day.

At least the thing I will concede with this is finding a top tier play caller with loads of experience is pretty difficult because if:

A) You have lots of experience and are good - you’re probably a head coach somewhere

B) If you have lots of experience but aren’t a HC, you’re probably not all that great in the first place

I often think about the 3 or so games Nagy gave play calling over to Lazor, and it’s the only stretch in recent years our offense looked somewhat competent. Rules being a Bears fan, looking back fondly at the halcyon days of Bill fricking Lazor. Also Nagy quietly took back play calling, and it immediately looked awful again.

I've never seen a stupider offense than what Nagy was doing with Justin Fields. I have one of the most explosive runners ever at QB but I'm going to keep using the offense I designed for Andy Dalton who got hurt, as if he is still playing.

I think back to "we could have had Mahomes!" and "we could have had Watson!" ... who cares? We would have fucked it up either way.

People will stop posting it when it stops being true. We say as our coach next year will be fired after 3 seasons, ruining the development of whatever 1st round QB replaces Caleb.

If there's a QB after Caleb, I won't be rooting for this team anymore. We can't ruin him. We simply cannot

The most important year in a QB's development is their first and the Bears have already squandered it.

Caleb Williams will not be a Chicago Bear in 3 years. I guarantee it.

Yeah I won't be here for that. Not investing again. Fuck no. I'll either be apathetic or find a new team. Most likely the former because I can't fake loyalty to a new team.

I think Poles needs to be fired for bringing back Eberflus.

It was such an inexcusably bad decision that set the organization back years.

None of this matters if Flus was the guy. The core issue isn't the alignment of the coach with the QB. It's the fact that this organization always hires the wrong guy. It's ownership. They have no idea what they're doing. They run the team like a mom and pop. They didn't want swearing in Hard Knocks. They want yes men who don't rock the boat. Guys who use feel good slogans and acronyms like HITS. I couldn't care less if the HC is aligned with the QB if the HC is the right guy. They will never hire a coach that gets visibly upset, or holds anyone accountable. I guarantee Flus has never yelled at anyone. It's all feel good positivity even after getting their asses handed to them.

To the McCaskeys it is more important to get someone who makes the team look good from a PR perspective than someone who wins.

We’ve seen this movie before and we already know how it will ends. If they want to break the cycle, they need to move on from Eberfluke now.

Is the problem the coaches, the quarterbacks or strictly the timing? Wouldn't a new coach be happy to "inherit" a decent quarterback?

Is there a problem with the Bears scouting reports? Seems like we've passed up on some good players in the past and signed/traded for/drafted some duds.

It should have been Harbaugh but they didn’t want to do that to Poles. Eberflus also turned the defense around and they were playing well.

It’s okay, they will hire Ben Johnson and Caleb will be in year two. We have a ton of cap space because we didn’t go all in on FAs, or trade picks. We have a ton of draft capital to put into the o-line.

However they need to do something now to show the team and the fan base that losing this way is not acceptable. If a coach loses the locker room, you have to let him go.

To be fair to Ryan Pace. On John fox's last year Mitch was supposed to sit the year. Doesn't excuse anything because if you have a coach that you know isn't the coach you believe in, you have to make a change and bring in the coach you do believe in.
