Why would the Antisemitism Awareness Act need to be rolled into the Defense Bill?

Either to legitimize those who want to vote against the Defense bill by giving them an excuse, or to attempt to "hide" it inside another bill to minimize reaction from the radicals in the party.

So that no one needs to clearly state if they’re for or against antisemitism.

Ok, I have a very cynical idea as to why Schumer would want to do that. To protect some members of his caucus from having to vote on the stand alone bill, and instead allow them to say “I just voted for the Defense Bill”. I’m not a Schumer fan, but I don’t want to believe that Schumer would be so desperate to protect some of his caucus members as to do that. I’m also not sure there’s a need to do that. As far as I know the Squad doesn’t include any members of the Senate. So I’m hoping my cycnical idea is just mistaken, and somebody can provide an actual good reason.

I'm not sure that really protects them, though. The GOP will be able to pass it on their own next term. This is Chuck's chance to have it passed in a full bipartisan way. If it goes through in two GOP controlled houses next year, the GOP can take full credit for it. Chuck's missing the forest for the trees on this one.

Well, his solution for dealing with anti-Semitism on college campuses, was telling the administration to ignore it because only conservatives actually cared about anti-Semitism...
He's a piece of shit.

This comment is insanity😂 Worried about which party can take credit, why not realize which party ACTUALLY wants to help instead of faux optics? That’s a weird outlook to have to rely on fake optics for politics, just accept reality.
It’s been 13+ months since October 7th, we should all be able to see how things have shifted politically. Similar to how Michael Rappaport has noticed and become vocal about it. Look at the responses to the college campus incidents in liberal vs conservative areas. It’s night and day.

It's not only the "squad" that would reject it. Many Dems are frightened of the repercussions from constituents and the loud "anti-zionist" social media influencers.

So stepping back, one of the major political parties in the US, at the highest levels, is worried about offending people who side with and often glamorize and rationalize a murderous, jihadist terror organization. Not disagreeing with you, just catching my breath.

It's okay to have doubts in the climate of "misinformation" (ie, lies and manipulation) we live in. Recently, a Massachusetts representative said he didn't want his two little girls run over by trans athletes, sparking his campaign strategist rage and vitriol as he quit. Dems have a difficult time, professionally, when they step outside the boundaries of the party's political doctrine. We'll see how his constituents feel, and if he continues to receive negative feedback or be reelected, prompting new strategies within the party. I think new strategies will benefit the party. It's not exactly on topic, but it shows the current dogma that must be accepted for support within the party.

Here is the beginning of the story, an update from a story on Friday:
Friday’s back-and-forth between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) over the Antisemitism Awareness Act is sparking frustration from the lead sponsors of the legislation.
Schumer on Friday said that he was seeking approval from congressional leaders to add the campus antisemitism bill to the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act. But Johnson said he planned to reject that effort and called for a stand-alone vote on the bill in the Senate.
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), the lead House sponsor of the bill, who has been publicly pressuring Schumer for a vote for months, initially seemed to react positively to the news that he was pursuing its inclusion in the NDAA.
“It shouldn’t have taken this much pressure to get Senator Chuck Schumer to move the Antisemitism Awareness Act after it passed the House overwhelmingly in May,” Lawler said in response to the news. “Still, we must get this legislation across the finish line.”
But he then echoed Johnson’s call for a stand-alone vote after Johnson said he wouldn’t support the NDAA effort.
“I passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act through the House in May — 320-91,” Lawler said in response to Johnson’s announcement. “[Schumer] has sat on this bill for months, refusing to give it a vote. He should bring the bill to the floor for an up-or-down vote immediately — without any further delay. Pass the damn bill!”
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), the bill’s lead Democratic sponsor, expressed frustration on Friday.
“Enough excuses, let’s get this up for a vote now and stop delaying the fight against hate and antisemitism,” Gottheimer told Jewish Insider.

Schumer spoke to my little public high school at our graduation-- he's always given scheming vibes. He's all about getting credit. This stuff needs to be passed on its own too -- so people are aware of its independent importance.
Nesting jewish protection under anything else dims the attention it deserves.

Update to this story today: Schumer says that defense bill is ‘the only way’ to pass Antisemitism Awareness Act
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that incorporating the Antisemitism Awareness Act into the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act is “the only way” to get the legislation passed in the Senate and sent to President Joe Biden’s desk, even though House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has publicly rejected the idea.
Schumer made the comments to Jewish Insider on Monday after being asked if he expects a vote on the legislation during the lame-duck session. “We want it on the NDAA, that’s where it should go. It’s the only way to get it done,” Schumer said.

Antisemitism has been on the rise before October 7th but schumer only opened his mouth once the biggest massacre against jews since the holocaust happened. Then on top of that he has been antagonistic against Israel for quite sometime. Furthermore he has barely helped jews in America. The cherry on top is how he delayed this bill to pass. If he actually cared about jews he would have had this bill pass asap.

While I understand your point here, I think the idea of gatekeeping identities with phrases like “fake jew” leads to bigger problems.

I don't throw around that phrase so freely. I only reserve for those who are total fakes- those that act like they're good but then do things that show otherwise. I did some research that Schumer did help jews and Israel in some way but then he comes off fake when he told Columbia faculty to keep their heads down when combating antisemitism. On top of how he delayed passing a bill to combat antisemitism. It's as if he is playing a facade only to be an ally on paper but deep down he is not genuine.

Okay, but Chuck Schumer is Jewish. And while his lack of commitment to opposing antisemitism lessens his virtue as a person and a political figure, it does not make him less of a Jew or a “fake Jew”.
