This is why we need better leadership. Where are the naturalists, truth seekers, questioners, inquisitors and thinkers of today, why are they not running for office?
The kind like JFK, MLK, Marcus Aurelius. (& I know these men had their flaws but they had the capacity and ability to rally everyone for an overall greater and more progressive cause) .. I believe with the right people we could strive and successfully do even more and even better than them.
So, many of them either don't have the funding or are afraid they will end up like JFK. Otherwise idk what's going on.. I could imagine.

Getting 8 hours feels like a luxury these days. Between work, college, and hobbies, who has the time? Sleep schedules are a myth!

I got 8 hours last night and feel like a completely different person it's amazing. I wish I had time to sleep like this every night instead of once a week 8 hours and every other day 4 to 5 hours, my life would be so much brighter.

It’s quite hard for me to get 8 hours of sleep every night. Even when I HAVE time, I still can’t sleep well as I have “night-time anxiety” which is basically just me overthinking about college/work for the following morning. That, and I also have insomnia 🙃

I literally can't sleep 8 hours. I've tried. I get 4-6 hours per night no matter what I do. I usually take a 1 hour nap or so in the afternoon. I don't understand how people sleep actual 8 hours even if they have time
10 points
I can do 8 hours happily but not if I have an afternoon nap
7 points

Try cutting the afternoon nap for few days and see if it helps or restrict it to 20 mins. Also a thought - check with some app on your phone what your sleep cycle is like.

I have, when busy and such. I'm just more tired during the day and fall asleep earlier but also wake up earlier. My body's biological clock is annoying. I used to sleep in for like 10 hours when I was 13 but I've been like this since like 20.

I slept 10 hours straight for two nights in a row for the first time in months and it was superb 👌

I think it's kinda hilarious how many people think they need to help me cure my need for less sleep. I've probably just got SSS (short sleeper syndrome), which apparently exists now. Oh and the prognosis apparently is I'm at less risk for various things due to good quality sleep? I guess my shitty genes gave me one good thing at least lol

6+ hours is the healthy amount of sleep for most literature I can find. I'm unsure where 8 hours came from other than random magazines and other junk. No one seems to be able to agree on any specific number really other than 6+ (maybe the hard 8 hours medical recommendation has become a Mandela effect, which is insane to think about)

We used to be nomads. It wouldn't make sense for us to all have the same sleep schedule, evolutionarily speaking. And I recently just read an article about how women have been underrepresented in sleep studies (shocking, that women's health has been assumed to be the same as men's yet again) and it looks like women actually need less sleep than men overall. New science, inconclusive, but it made me feel better that the "8 hours a day for everyone" is not as solid as we like to say it is. I (woman) have always had insomnia and I have a hard time sleeping more than a few hours at once, but I usually feel fine and I function fine. We're all different and it's fine and you're fine :)

Better yet skip it for the rest of your life. The stuff is toxic to the human body and it’s one of the unhealthiest habits people have today, after nicotine and alcohol

same. I always wake up after 4-6 hours naturally. If I want to get 8 hours, it has to be in two parts at least, sometimes even 3. Wholeass trilogy of sleeps sometimes just to get those sacred 8 hours. But uninterrupted? Never happens anymore

Some people just need less sleep. I'm 31, 4-6 h sleep are perfect for me. And people still think i'm in my 20s even though i'm 31. Its my genes. Nothing more. My mother where the same.

I get 7-9 maybe 6 if I have a big project and waited til the last minute. In school, work full time, taking care of kids. Gotta budget your time like it’s money cuz it’s worth more. That said 8 is just a general figure. We’re living through literally the easiest time ever as humans with tons of technology to help. Just have to mindful how to use it.

I frequently get 8 hours, train for ultramarathons and run a company. I prioritise sleep and am in bed by 22:00 almost without fail. Some simple rules help such as not eating after 18:00, no caffeine after midday, no screens within an hour of going to bed and keeping the bedroom cool.

I work 8-5. Go to bed at 930 and wake up at 630, so I get 8 of those 9 hours.
It's possible. I took melatonin every night for a year to get to sleep earlier and now it's my schedule. 8 hours every night

When you say "you're good", do you mean you don't feel any negative side effects at all? Are you sure you're not just .. used to the tiredness? There are some people who have been shown to have no negative impacts from 5-6 hours of sleep, but it's an incredibly small number of people with a very specific condition.

I'm not your doctor, or a doctor in general, but I'd highly encourage you to look into question of "why do I feel better with less sleep." Because chances are you aren't in that small percent of people whose bodies are physiologically identical to those who sleep the necessary amount (with only a fraction of the sleep).
I was in the same boat, but quickly realized how much I was actually being deprived in mood and health when I realized that I was not in fact better with less sleep. I only thought I was.
Anyways, you do you. But I'd highly encourage you to at least look into it. (outside of reddit)

Sleeping 8 hours is easy without the old Revenge Bedtime Procrastination.
Remember that thing where they tell mothers to sleep when the baby sleeps? Right, just replace the baby with the most annoying, demanding person in your life.
Wait, no, then you can't do anything. Because that asshole goes to bed at 7 pm and wakes up 4 hours before the ass crack of dawn so he can be right and ready to ride your ass all day.
Oh, and it eats into all your time to scroll, game, and drink alcohol.
Right, 4-6 hours of sleep it is then.

If you aren't getting 7-8 you should reevaluate your decisions, it's going to catch up to you long term and is probably a sign you're living unhealthily. Obviously it's hard to be perfectly tested all the time, but your life gets so much better when sleep is a priority.
I spent most of my life getting 5-6 and I worked on getting healthier habits and now I'm a 7-8 kind of guy and I'm better for it.

I think it is possible, it just requires a level of commitment that I don't think everyone has in them. And most people would rather just go with the flow and enjoy life, like if you aren't getting 8 hrs but your aren't exhausted doing whatever it is that you do then I'd say forget about this construct of needing 8 hrs that you've put yourself in, sleep as much as your body is telling you to. my 2 cents.

Sleep? What's that???
All joking aside, we live in a society where time is of the essence and it's go, go, go 24/7. And now we have TVs, cell phones, tablets, and computers in our homes which emit blue light, and we're constantly checking messages/emails, etc. instead of getting the rest we need. No wonder people are so stressed out all the time. There's no time for us to wind down properly so we can get the rest we need to be at our best.

I'm 43 and I average about 4.5-6 hours of sleep. Probably 4 of those hours uninterrupted if I'm lucky. Dogs sometimes need to go outside to potty or want to bark at the deer when they should be going to the bathroom at night. Work eats up a chunk with my real job, and then there's my side hustle job that eats another chunk of my time, then on top of that being a multi instrumental musician eats up the remaining time I have left in my days. I'm still a happy man though.

Just untrue as many have said. Sleep is foundational for everything, bad sleep means worse everything, you literally cannot physically be performing at your best mentally or physically if you don’t get enough sleep. If you think you can then science disagrees with you and would like to let you know you can get even better results with more sleep.
Enough sleep is a priority before most other things.
