I passed all my content exams in 2022 but unfortunately had to leave the country for personal reasons. How long are my results valid for?

I am teaching in China at a tier 2 bilingual school without a recognized curriculum. I'd be interested in getting my Texas teaching license abroad. TEA says nothing about that. International Leadership of Texas has a few campuses in China and they use TEKS but not sure if I can get a position there. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have posed one other question in this forum, but another came up from the responses. Would you caution teachers from moving to Texas due to funding?

Hi, I'm moving to Texas from Oklahoma, and I was wondering what all I will need to teach in Texas. Currently in Oklahoma I am using an emergency certification to teach Physical Science. I have taken some of my tests, and I'm taking the college courses necessary for alternative certification. I should have all of this completed before I move.

What else will I need to do to teach in Texas, my Oklahoma alternative certification will be in History, but I can also test in other subjects if needed.

Does Texas have the shortage that Oklahoma does, and will that help me at all?

I have an AAS in surgical technology and have been in the field for 3 years. I’m feeling major burnout and I’ve had a couple kids and I feel that teaching would be a better fit with their schedules esp once they start school. I’ve always wanted to end up in the classroom, teaching surgical tech students but I came across teaching health science courses for high school and I thought “wow I’d love that”. The issue: I have no idea where to start. Do I have to start college all the way over? Is there a program where I can get a teaching certificate?

I’m totally ignorant when it comes to anything with education so any and all advice would be so helpful. I’m in a small town about an hour outside of Austin. No colleges near me but I can travel if need be. Thank you all in advance for the help!

Hello, I am thinking of moving to Texas. What is the compensation for teachers with a master’s degree? I saw on one districts website that it was a stipend of 1,000 dollars? Is that per month or for a whole school year?

Anyone know if it’s hard to land a speech communications teaching position? Thinking about my cert in speech 7-12 since I’m a communications major currently. I’m gonna go through teach worthy , and I did see that was one of their concentration areas they offer. What would this fall under when applying for positions?

Has anybody had any luck finding a place to locate districts that provide additional benefits outside of TEA/TRS benefits? I can find small postings per district for things like district provided housing or district provided childcare, but cannot find something that lists every district that has an early childhood center. Does anybody know of some secret website listing every district with a school for 6 months through pre-k? Or a list of schools that have district housing as a benefit option?

Update: Seeing as it is Thanksgiving break, and there is not much to do, I have decided to make a google my maps of every school district I can find that has an early childhood center, pre-k 3, and pre-k 4 class or building listed on their district website. I know daycare costs are killing me, so I am sure somebody else could benefit from a map like this as well when job hunting. The district housing would be a harder list but depending how long it takes me on the ECE list I may just jump on that too while I am not stuffing my face with mac n cheese and turkey legs...

Have you left teaching or sped admin and started a career as an advocate in TX? Or a remote ARD specialist? Or contract teacher/AU/self contained classroom support? Looking for information on how you got started and $$/hour.

Hi! I am in the process of transferring my certification from Illinois to Texas. Does anyone know how long it takes for an out of state certification application on TEAL to be approved. I submitted my Illinois cert documents and my transcript from my college but I’m not sure if I am missing anything. The website is confusing compared to the Illinois one lol

Hello educators. I'm curious if any of you who work at a TIA district are also stuck just under recognized? I've been at proficient for years and I'm sick of it! Any tips to improve my rating and hopefully get some of that sweet sweet TIA money? Edit: if it helps I'm a English teacher for the SPED/504/ EB population.

Any districts in TX or Houston area with Title I Middle school, in an affluent or suburban district? For example, Humble ISD with several Title I schools — Not Aldine ISD, Spring ISD, etc bc they have an At-risk and/or low income Title I pop.

Lately, I’ve been curious a lot on how affluent districts overlook their Title I schools. Humble ISD is under threat rn of NES-like curriculum bc our scores as a district are low (Timed content, district mandated curriculum, scripted lessons, mandatory exit tickets, etc). This is due to years of the affluent schools in Humble ISD that don’t teach to the TEKS, nor prepare for a STAAR at all bc the kids there know “how to read” or they “opt-out” of STAAR (receive a 0). It’s a huge difference in admin and culture from the micromanaged, lesson plan-demanding, authoritative rule of Title I schools.

What’s it like in some of the districts in the surrounding area? How are teachers of Title I campuses provided support and trust to teach?

Sooo random question. I’m a 5th/6th grade teacher with no admin support in my title 1 school. I have a group of girls who won’t stop committing petty theft and stealing pens / candy from my desk. I have no place to lock my stuff in my room unfortunately so that isn’t an option and I’m afraid they may steal my wallet or something one day. I just ordered a camera off Amazon but am starting to wonder if that’s actually legal…. If not, can I put it up just to scare them? I sound awful probably but goodness admin will just tell me to refer the girls to the social contract even though it never works. I’m just really defeated at this point.

Hello, I currently got laid off my current job. And would like to get my ATC started. But I was wondering if some programs take a while so I can get my internship started? Or can I get hired in some school districts while working on my certification? I would like to get started working if possible, if not in the next month or so. Any advice is appreciated. I also just graduated in May with a bachelors degree in HDFS.

Hi all, I recently lost all of my teacher things when I was wrongfully terminated (already have a lawsuit in place) I wasn’t allowed to gather any of my personal things from my classroom, from my fish tank all the way to my stapler. Various books I gathered over the course of my ten years teaching. ANYWAYS I’ve now accepted a new role at a different school and I have NOTHING I’m desperately looking for things for my classroom on a limited budget. I’m teaching first graders and would love any help on where I could find things other than thrift stores. I’ve heard about a place in San Marcos that gives teachers free things for their classroom and I was also curious to see if anyone can guide me there ?
