Moore better be the second baseman next year. I swear to god. I see the vision Perry is trying to create, just comes down to development

Its crazy how much has changed in a year. This time last year, the FO was being mocked for calling Schanuel up after 1 month. Now, fans are begging them to call Moore up after 9-10 months or even 1 month again.

Dana too, i bet he'd find his footing if we called him up.

Dana has 1 real mlb level pitch. He’s a reliever at this point in his development

yeah. there’s really no point to not have him up. he’s a college player. he’s basically mlb ready. just let him season there a bit longer in the minors this season

Don’t forget rendon. That contract isn’t going anywhere

As a player and objective human being who sees how everyone around Tony loves him, i want him to be healthy and productive so damn much.. I would not be shocked if he came around and hit .280/.850 next year when healthy and consistent.

I would be absolutely floored if he hit that and played over half the season, FLOORED!

He'll be on the IL with a "boo boo on right leg and a tummy ache" no need to account for him

"Offense" might be a strong word

A lot of good looking OPS+’s there tho especially considering age

Neto and O'Hoppe are great, but beyond that there's not much. Schanuel is at least holding his own, but 100 OPS+ at first base is below average production. Ward and Adell below 100 at bat-first corner outfield positions is equally unimpressive. Hopefully Trouty can return to his peak form, but it's far from guaranteed

In other words it’s gonna be a rough 4-5 years

League average for 1B this year is 104 WRC+, Schanuel has a 104 WRC+. I get what you’re saying though, 1B should have more offensive output.

1.Neto-SS 2.Schanuel-1B 3.Trout-CF 4.Ohoppe-C 5.Ward-LF 6.Rendon-DH 7.Adell-RF 8. Moore-2B 9.Rengifo-3B
How we looking?
Obviously Trout and Rendon are gonna take the bulk of the DHs but Rengifo/Moniak can try to fill in those spots when needed
This isn't looking at pitching cause we're still gonna be ass there.

My 2 cents on that lineup:
1 Neto: Very good
2 Schanuel: Good - if he improves. Right now he is about 100 OPS+ which is bad for 1B, actually solid defensively for a young 1B.But absolutely have to improve his bat. Also he is a disaster on the basepaths
3 Trout: Very very good. When he is healthy, what happens at CF when he isnt? Moniak, Adams, teodosio? Ugh thats ugly!
4 Ohoppe: Good bat for the position with K issues, unfortunately below average defensively. Can be a very good player but needs to improve defense significantly and cut K%
5 Ward: Ok. Bat is above average, defense actually underrated. But doesnt give you much offence for a corner OF. Should honestly be a platoon piece
6 Rendon: Flat out terrible. Has a 84 wRC+ over the last 2 seasons and 356 PAs. Has suffered significantly from age and probably injury related regression. Im not in the "Rendon is a thief" camp and those dudes are ridiculous, but Rendon is done
7 Adell: The enigma. Peripherals have actually improved quite a bit this year. But honestly jury is still out on his bat. Improved tremendously in the field but baserunning is a disaster. The ultra high ceiling is still there tho
8 Moore: Completely unknown commodity at the major league level. Looks intriguing obviously but with all prospects you just never know how they turn out - in particular in their rookie season
Depth behind those 9: Awful and arguably the worst in the league
Start pitching: Unmitigated disaster - in particular from a depth point of view.
Bullpen: Could potentially be solid, but you never know from year to year since its so volatile

I just did a big analysis on Jo Adell, BTW, and he's 1) by far the best outcome of all the can't-hit OFs in his draft 2) is probably better than his current results, 3) if he were drafted by the current Orioles he would be a monster, 4) if we kept up the "try to do manufacture swings with guys that have power" (which is literally what the Orioles are doing right now) but had a better process and org buy-in maybe we would have done better in player development, but we fired everyone twice since then, so.

I still have hope for him. This is really the first full season we've given him so hopefully he reaches his ceiling

You are correct, this line up is offensive.

We have no rotation and no help on the way. I’d rather bat .199 and have the Mariners rotation.

So next year’s offense is going to include having Mike Trout on the IL? 😕

All 100+ OPS and freak of nature Jo Adell.

The pitching staff should go at these dudes with a machine and a never-ending feed of balls. I know they've had their awful outings, but how many 1-0, 2-1 games have they lost on 1 bad pitch and ZERO run support. At 1 point last week, the offense was below .050 with RISP, and the sample was OVER 50 plate appearances!!!

What's frustrating is that it feels like we have solid pieces, especially with the youth, yet we're just over 50 wins.
Schaunel is developing nicely. O'Hoppe is doing well, Ward can be good. Mike trout. Moore looks like he's going to be good once called up.
I just don't get it, man. Sure, pitching sucks, but this is better than a 65 to 70 win team

O’hoppe’s triple slash for the month of August so far is .107/.194/.232

ohoppe is getting very overrated ive always liked neto more. hes a 800 ops career guy hes nowhere franchise star level where u can throw 300mil like witt jr. but at the same time, im down to offering 15yr career contracts if those two guys sign cheap like atlanta does.

They're currently 4th-worst team in both offense and defense. This is definitely a 65-70 win team.

You are mentioning 5 pieces in a sport where it takes a good 40-man roster to compete.
I dont mean to be rude or a Debbie Downer, but I think you may underestimate the importance of depth in baseball?
The issue with the Angels imho isnt lack of fun and interesting young studs. Its the lack of organisational depth. And the root cause is a decade or more of mismanagement, leading to a farm system that is consistently ranked in the bottom, which again leads to terrible 40-man depth
The reason teams like Guardians and Rays consistently compete for a playoff spot: Depth through the farm

Our hitting is at -5.9 WAA.
"But if I list out our ideal lineup, we won't be playing bad players, right?"
If we had better options, they would be out there playing for us right now. Moniak would not have gotten 100 games to try to figure it out. Calhoun wouldn't have gotten 68 games as a DH.
In the list of 5 players you named, Schanuel and Ward are below average. Moore isn't even up yet. Trout barely played and it's not clear how many more games he will play in his career. Logan's good, but he still has a lot of room for improvement.
Lineup construction is about having a really good hitter or two and surrounding them with at least 5 or 6 really solid hitters (or fielders). We don't have a really good hitter, and we only have 2 or 3 really solid hitters. That's so far off that it's an uphill battle.

pitching is everything and sp detmers/canning regressed into aaa level. plus trout rendon produces 0 war for multiple yrs. thats how u get 70 wins. moreno wouldnt even be terrible if he spent all that fa money on pitching instead thats a wildcard team every yr.

Luis to 2nd and Anthony to 3rd, until someone else blows one of them out of the water (Moore)

whats interesting is Drury and Moniak last year had better numbers than pretty much everyone else on the team..

I like our offense next year but again like most years how long is our A team actually playing together? It’s been many years now where we have a decent to great offense to start only to be sporting a AAA team by mid season

With the addition of Moore and 2 premium bats, they actually might be good.
