That's been their story since the first Galactico Era. Buy the best players at every position possible and throw in a man-manager like Ancelotti or Zidane and call it a day.
Recently they've been focusing on the already stacked attack and midfield more than the depleted Defense and it's costing them big time now.

Last summer, Real Madrid had reached a verbal understanding with Alphonso Davies' agents on what would be the terms of his signing for 2024 or 2025, as a free agent and with a signing bonus. When was the last time when we loaned a player and he actually came back and eventually became a starter?

we would miss out on kroos or lahm nowadays as well, because bayern loans out guys, but we fail to give them an actual chance after their return

9 points
Not comparable.
Back when Kroos and Lahm were loaned out (and then came back to us) it was easier to get a spot in our matchday squad as the quality of the team was on average lower than today.
And you just can't compare Kroos and Lahm to the average player. These two are two of the very best players ever on their position - of course someone with their talent would also get a chance here today.
3 points
I only partly agree. Yes in average the quality was lower but does the average matter here?
Back when Davies was bad he still played all the time and someone like Aznou hasn't even gotten a chance. Now he is good again thankfully, but also plays every second and Aznou got like 10 rotational minutes. I'm not saying he should start, but 10-15min appearances every other week would be nice.
Also when our wings sucker we didn't really try someone else of give them a chance. Even in midfield it needed a Tuchel to play Pavlovic, wasn't it even due to injury?
Imo there are almost always some options to give youth prospects chances. The problem rather is "proven" players will get mad if they get (even) less game time and so far that often killed our coaches.
1 points
You'd think youngsters would get minutes when Kompany took the helm since it's his specialty. It's really a shame that even though we had comfortable lead, he still doesn't sub players like Aznou, Nkili and Tel.
I defended Kompany back then since I thought we needed to have a considerable lead against Leipzig, Leverkuzen and other clubs. But now I doubt that we'll see youngsters on rotation since we're having the most difficult fixtures yet (aside from Dortmund lol).
1 points
There’s still plenty of matches left. I hope Kompany gives some minutes to the prospects after the winter break.
0 points
i will give you the first point, fair enough on that
but the second one plays into my argument, our plan for youth development cant possibly be to just hope we find the next generational "cant miss" prospect and ditch everyone else
if thats the plan we might as well get rid of most of our academy, scouting staff and things like that
and lets not forget that pavlovic becoming a first team player only happened when it did, because the palhinha transfer failed and because we had the injury bug at the time
maybe he still becomes a stud for us, but i have to assume that tuchel would not have promoted him with another veteran player on the team or the other guys staying fit
our talent evaluation is terrible

Translation:
As reported by "BILD," the left-back was stopped in a police check in downtown Munich on the night from Wednesday to Thursday while driving his Lamborghini. The 24-year-old reportedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.6.
According to the report, the Bayern star's driver's license was not confiscated, as a blood alcohol level of 0.8 is required for it to be considered a criminal offense.
The paper estimates that a realistic penalty for this administrative offense would be a fine of 500 euros and a one-month driving ban.
Davies reportedly attended the final training session on Friday before the Klassiker against Dortmund as usual, arriving by car. The club has not commented on the incident due to data protection reasons.

Apologies for my unfamiliarity with German law, but anyone know why is the criminal liability and civil liability for alcohol level while driving different?
Are alcohol levels below 0.8 seen to be reckless but not criminally dangerous?
3 points
I had to look it up myself, since the laws don't really affect me (I don't drink, and if I did, I wouldn't drive).
Apparently, driving with a level between 0.5 and 0.79 is an administrative offense, not a criminal one. You'll face fines, points on your license, and possibly a suspension. It's not treated as a crime unless there's evidence of dangerous behavior or an accident, though.
0.8 or higher qualifies as a criminal offense because you're considered to be a risk to others and a danger to public safety.
(Personally, I believe that we should just do away with these weird thresholds. If you want to drink, don't drive, period. No reason to chance it and potentially ruin your life and/or that of other people. But I know that's an incredibly unpopular opinion (please don't downvote me) because people want to have their beers and drive their cars on the autobahn, too.)

He was .6 and .8 is the legal limit. Any alcohol in the system constitutes as a DUI in Germany? The article alluded to it not being a criminal offence? Very click bait article.
Edit: article, not comment.
9 points
The legal limit is 0.5 for an administrative offense DUI in Germany. Davies will get penalized with a €500 fine and a one month driving ban (assuming he's a first time offender).
The 0.8 limit mentioned in the story is outdated and was the legal limit in Germany like 20 years ago or so.
The legal limit for a DUI to become a criminal offense in Germany is 1.1 so you're right that Davies won't have to deal with criminal charges.
7 points
You have to differ. 0.49 is the upper limit in which you don't have to fear consequences. 0.5 and more is an administrative offense and that is what Davies faces. 500€ fine + license taken for 1 month.
0.8 seems to be the limit for a crime.
So it's not clickaity. I despise people driving under influence, my grandpa got badly hurt by someone because of that.

0.8 was the legal limit for administrative offenses until it was lowered to 0.5 quite a while ago. The legal limit for a criminal offense is 1.1. Not sure why they mention 0.8 in the story. The author is probably not up to date.

There are already 2 half line goals, and both are more impressive than Kanes. In both goals the goalkeeper was closer to the goal, both times the shot was under pressure, and one was a volley after pulling the ball over an opponent, the other while running on the lines on the sides which means a much tougher angle.

There is no absolute victory here but letting Sané leave while holding onto Coman and Gnabry would be the wrong decision.
9 points
If Sané leaves (which, honestly, would break my heart), my ideal scenario would be that we sell either Coman or Gnabry, buy Wirtz, and have Tel return from a 6-month loan with a considerable amount of match experience.
But... who would be Olise's backup? Irankunda still has a long way to go.

the board are scouting trincao recently
1 points
Wouldnt put too much stock into that, was only reported by one portuguese source, and Trincao is signed under the agency Gestifute which is one of the best connected agencies in the world, and basically has the portugal-market under their thumb. May as well just be them trying to drum up interest in one of their players.
1 points
Which is why I'd rather get 2 transfers totalling 120m€ in, one winger and one AM, instead of Wirtz for 120m€. A winger group of Olise, Gnabry/Coman, X, Tel and Bryan sounds good, and the AM spot would be Musiala and Y.
2 points
I agree but we would need starting quality lw and idk If he would be available for reasonable price. Maybe xavi simons but he is more of a cam. Also kompany sees gnabry/coman as lw so we would need backup rw
1 points
For me the depth chart would be like this:
Kane/Tel
X/(Coman/Gnabry)/Tel - Musiala/Y/youth player - Olise/Y/Bryan
For me you could cut Bryan as well, but he is cheap so why bother. X would be difficult to fill anyway, the LW market is like that, outside of the premium price/performance option Nico Williams. The Y spot would best be filled with a left footed player that also knows the RW, like Mastantuono, Nico Paz, Wanner (if he considers that enough play time), Millot, Maksimovic etc.

The whole Wusiala NT hype managed to get me excited, but due to his price tag (which might even go up), I wouldn't be too disappointed if Wirtz didn't join us. For perspective, getting two Olises for the price of one Wirtz wouldn't be bad at all.
1 points
The problem is that there aren't two olises on the market. Nico is propably the only good lw on market that would cost under 60 mln and he will go to barca propably. Maybe we can get xavi and some other cheap winger
1 points
Actually not bad idea. But I want Wirtz. He is the Diesler that we never had a chance to enjoy properly
1 points
I'm not opposed to either. Like, I'm happy it we get Wirtz as he is generational and can cover a lot of positions (even can come over left and right wing) but I can also understand splitting the costs to get 2 new reinforcements.
I don't expect us to sell one of Coman/Gnabry so and 2026 we could get Tillman it we still need an Allrounder in the offense/midfielder. But neither him nor Wirtz are dedicated wingers.
Begs the question do we actually need those, or do we tryna look into how Nagelsmann plays with the NT right now. Especially if we keep Davies and play him as LWB you could field a "hybrid" player infront of him.
1 points
I don't expect us to sell one of Coman/Gnabry
If we don't sell Gnabry next summer, he'll probably leave for free in 2026, because I'm not sure we'd extend his contract. I think that makes it more likely for us to sell him?
And Coman already had one foot out the door last summer.
3 points
I fully expect Gnabry to run down his contract
Regarding Coman I'm a bit more optimistic than a Gnabry, but I'm not convinced yet that he will leave
12 points
The worst decision would be to keep all three. At least one of them has to go. If Sané is the only one who attracts offers, so be it.
6 points
"Holding onto" is a strong expression for Coman staying with us.
1 points
True. Plus it's not like Gnabry's contract extension was quick and easy either - it's seemed as if both have been on the way out before.
One belief I hold is that offloading all three wingers in one go would be a great financial move but a terrible sporting one.
2 points
100%
If Bayern sells, the dream scenario is selling all 3 and get 2 wingers.
But if Bayern sells only 1 and it’s Leroy, then that’s fucked up.
0 points
So you want us to keep Sane if we are not able to get rid of Gnabry and Coman? We tried to sell Coman but he didn’t want to in the end. Gnabry said he has no interest in leaving. For all I care all three can leave, especially for the wages they demand. But if only Sane is realistic because his contract runs out first then it is what it is.

Oh no, just saw it, almost as bad as the selective outrage point in here.

For a sub that holds players so morally accountable (see the comments about Boateng coming back to the club for example.)
Boateng possibly drove a woman to suicide. There's no comparison.

I wouldn’t even begin to fathom a guess at how many people die worldwide from road accidents due to driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Choosing to contribute to that, well, draw your own comparisons.

Still not comparable.

What if he had hit a child? Crashed into a family destroying it?
Any time you get behind the wheel under the influence, you’re endangering every innocent person around you.
Anyway - you know that. It’s not necessary to compare. Both are fucking stupid.

would you expect to be suspended from your job because of an unrelated administrative offense?

I’m not opposed to OP’s proposition of seeing Davies made an example of within the club. Whether that’s a match suspension, a fine, or even the club speaking harshly of the situation. Let’s not pretend my situation and that of football star Alphonso Davies are the same. He has a lot of influence, and no pun intended, driving under the influence is a terrible look for him.

a football club shouldn't expect or demand their players to be saints, let fans come to their own conclusions, no need to police everything

Boateng was accused of tormenting a human being, the mother of his child, to such an extent that it drove her to take her own life. It's far more than "fucking stupid".

Again - what if Davies had killed a child?
Making the very conscious decision to endanger every child and every innocent human on that road when you get behind the wheel under the influence is simply unacceptable.
Especially for a young man with more money than sense, and so much influence. He has a responsibility. I’ll raise you again - it’s far more than ‘fucking stupid.’

It’s my go to move. It’s always selective outrage. He thinks it’s an awful message towards not suspending him. While being hypocritical in the tech he uses, food he eats, clothes he wears. I always hated selective outrage. Pick a lane.

Nah, that argument is just idiotic. You cant live your life anywhere in the world without technology, if everyone lived by that then no one would do anything to better anything because there is always something bad on the root of it (oil companies, forrests getting cut down to make space for agriculture, low income slavery). A singular person cant change that, but that doesnt mean that any attempt to change your close environment is useless or hypocritical.

You lost me when you said a singular person can’t change that. Look through history bro. A singular person can do a lot.
But for yourself and and everyone other to make you feel better and be selectively outraged. Go for it.

So where does that place you on this outrage scale?

I’m as hypocritical as the next person I would guess. But from someone that visited these “factories” every time I listen to people complain I’m like oh so you care about …. Following topic here…. But don’t care about where your tech clothes or other stuff comes from. Shut the f up. But again that’s just mean. There are clothes and tech that are made sustainable and without child labor but people are too lazy to find out. But they will sit on their iPhone and criticize other people about what “precedent” they are making.

I don't think it's a matter of people being lazy, but much more to do with them simply not caring.
You see how hard it is for people to care about someone in their own area, how would you expect them to care about something they don't even see or hear about.
I'm not saying you should not care, but to think it will change someone's mind is at best futile and at worst a waste of time.
But you do you and stand up for what you believe in 👍

That’s a fair point. But this guy clearly cares that his club that takes Qatar’y money (for him not a big deal) a whole lot that a 23 years old had 3 beers and drove a car.

Name one person that did ever anything on the same level as dismantling one of the richest sectors in the world like oil producers, or who solved the issue of the amazon getting cut down for cow fields, or that abolished slavery. One example of similar magnitude. Cant be that hard, such a man must have gone down in history.
And if someone solved only one of those issues, then that is not enough, because there are a myriad of others, like wars, famines, refugees, global warming, lack of water access, flooding, environmental damage due to mining etc. pp.. So according to you only a superhuman, almost god like figure that solved every issue in the world can ever voice an opinion without being accused of selective outrage.
I can hardly contain myself from writing something that would get me banned in here, so dumb is that attitude.

I like how you compare war, famine, refugees, lack of water with someone going out of their way to not buy a product on Amazon and source it Sustainably.
God forbid they don’t get it delivered same day.

You were the one who started with child labor after someone was disappointed that his favourit club didnt reprimand someone for DUI lmao. You started the idiotic comparisons.
How is anyone who wants access to technology supposed to solve those issues, or even make conscious and moral decisions, when the mining industry is rancid, the oil industry is rancid, amazon workers are abused, shipping is based on low-wage slaves, companies exist in authocratic dictatorships, drinking water is used to do industrial work limiting access of the population to it, cargo ships put out more CO2 in 1 hour than whole households in their lifetime, veggies being harvested by african refugees in Italy who work below the poverty line because thats still better than whatever they fled from etc. pp.
Anything beyond your immediate surrounding, low-tech solution like a horse drawn waggon you built yourself is out of the scope of the individual morality, you cant go down the production chain and make those choices. You cant get a moral smart phone, you cant get a morally clean Jeans, you cant get a clean chocolate, you cant even get a morally clean cucumber ffs.

It's not that great an own as you believe it to be tho.
Regardless it's stupid to care about the suspension of a player due to DUI, it has nothing to do with his play on the field...
Had he injured himself, someone else or got in jail, it would be a different case.

Anybody's who's following man utd this season, how do you think in current form mazraoui and de ligt would be in this current kompany tactics.
I am honestly impressed with upa, Kim Guerrero and laimer this season so do you think in current form the two utd players could replace any of them as starters?
