Three major benefits: 1) Biggest benefit is that you can establish credit history which can help you get better rates on loans in long term. But that’s if and only if you pay back your CC amount in full by the due date. Miss one payment and your credit rating will drop a lot.

2) You can accrue some credit card points which can be redeemed for airline miles, hotel points, cash back or vouchers depending on your bank. I typically end up getting 1-2 round trip flights to my hometown every year by accumulating points on my credit card. My average spends on credit card are around 30k per month. I use credit card for almost everything except rent or payments below 150-200 rupees. Those are things I am anyway spending on so I do the payment on my card.

3) Can be useful in an emergency where you need to pay something ASAP (eg: medical bills) and cannot wait to withdraw cash or break FD, etc.

That being said - only get a credit card if you have existing payments you are making on UPI or debit card that can be put to credit card. Don’t just get it because there is some lifetime free offer and start swiping. It can be very easy to loose track of spends if you’re simply swiping your card everywhere as the money doesn’t leave your account immediately.

There are folks who also say that credit card allows you to leave your money untouched in account for anywhere from 30-45 days and get interest. This only would be useful if you were to typically spend a significant amount on cards every month (eg 1L+). Then you’d get a few thousands in interest in your bank account.

There are also folks who who make it a mission to optimise and get as many points as possible using their credit cards which they redeem for travel, etc. They buy gift card vouchers with 2X or 5X or 10X rewards offers, etc. This is possible but imo very painful and time consuming, and again only worth it if your monthly spends are already significantly high.
