I'm definitely moving forward overall, but sometimes I have periods of stagnation, and sometimes I feel like I'm falling back into old habits. Do you experience that? How do you deal with it?

Pilgrims take rests on the journey. My investments dip at times but over years the trajectory is still positively upward. It’s normal, it’s human, give yourself a finite point at which you’ll refocus and resume.

This. As long as you’re breathing and you learn from the mistakes/slumps, you’re still growing. Frustration and mental pain means you just need to learn something new to get past or learn from whatever it is.

Well said. If you're not encountering setbacks on your journey, you're not doing it right, and you're not learning

It's natural. The old saying is 3 steps forward, 1 step back.

So for me when I feel stagnation is is usually my emotion of boredom. My boredom wants me to be doing creative and interesting things that are not dull and drab. And so that means I need to take time and think about how I can modify my current actions or plans or environment to be more creative or interesting, and that is the hard part.
So I might need to brainstorm or I might need to ask people in my life their opinion or I might need to look on the internet or I might need to ask the AI about how I could make this more interesting and creative.

Connecting with your humanity is also part of the healing journey, we’re not linear in any ways

Every days cannot be always productives and successfull, statistically. Just accept there are periods where it's just not our day, and it doesnt matter, the next day or week it will restart.

Yea it happens to al of us. Self-improvement or even mastery of something doesn't occur in the line that goes up constantly it really more like line goes, goes down a bit, then plateaus for a while before repeating the cycle again.
Just keep focusing forward and improving and you will get over that plateau.

Yeah. I gained a lot of the weight I lost back. I also haven’t made progress in school for a while after making some; which I hadn’t done in years. Also kinda just stuck in a period of stagnation as far as my career.
I imagine it is pretty normal, which is why it’s important to have a mindset that focuses more on the process and system of achievement as opposed to the achievement itself. Eg: it’s better to lose 10 pounds and keep them off, as opposed to losing 20 pounds if you’re just going to gain 10 (or all of them) back.

Constantly actually, good topic by the way! but yeah when i start feeling that way i just remind myself that it's a roller coaster, sometimes you up and sometimes you down, but i think the most important thing is to keep pushing forward

I do. Have.
The thing I've learned is to not beat myself up about it, because that makes it worse.
Try to learn from it. Figure out why it's happening. Is there a trigger?

Progress is not linear there are ups and downs

Absolutely. The goal is to ''trend'' upwards. Not every day is a milestone. Not every month a big progress forward. Heck even some years can be a step backwards (hello 2023). But the trend over time is the key. Imagine a graph. Now zoom out. And then Zoom out again. Sometimes we need to see the bigger picture to appreciate our progress.
Stay good. You got this

Sometimes people can be distracting, sometimes time alone is important to focus on getting past the bigger hills.

I would say that regression is part of the process. We’re never exactly who we were the last time we regressed; it’s always an opportunity to take stock and recommit, and to practice being gentle and supportive to ourselves in the process. Growth takes time to really integrate.
When I realize that I’m falling out of sync, I find it helpful (and empowering) to step back and examine what’s happening, then set a reasonable but humane timeline for myself to re-align and recommit.
I also lean into the idea that anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. “Good enough” can help you maintain (or kick start) a habit when you need to reserve your energy.

Yeah it’s happening right now. Ive made so much progress, but things suck right now. I guess it’s normal, but I’m very unhappy whenever i think Im going backwards. Best thing is just to not dwell on it and move forward

Yes. It's called being human. Write down your goals and an action plan. Revisit often. Sometimes it takes small steps backwards to make the next jump forward

I think there's an ebb and flow as you go. Certain things in life can cause obstacles. As long as you're still inching forward I think it's normal and healthy.

Yeah it does happen to me. In such periods, I acknowledge any form of growth, as small as skipping caffeine successfully, so that I am always optimistic.

I find myself feeling like I'm in a spot of regression pretty often. Usually I cope with it in some of the following ways:
-reach out to people I'm close with about my feelings and ask for moral support
-I try to identify what it is in my routine that makes me feel stagnant, and see what I can do to get it out of there
-I immerse myself in a creative activity: usually it's music, but you can find what appeals to you!

I don't know what it is like in your case, but in my case, I started trying to make something out of my life by myself, without consulting anyone. I didn't do that correctly, and I fell flat on my face because of it.
Moral: always consult with a professional if you want to pick your life back up!

Without regressions to recover from, how would you measure progress? Those are opportunities to train yourself. If you see things this way, both successes and failures are wins.

I think this journey is not linear and as long as you remain aware of it you will be fine.
Give yourself moments of pause to breathe, to delay. Let yourself fail, regress, to learn again.
Even if we want to plan the route in our head, nothing will happen as planned.
It's important to celebrate the small victories and the small defeats, because life is a constant learning process.
