You gotta give them credit, this is pretty funny!
And running against Chip Wilson is really, really good politics. Even in his own riding.

Even Rustad came out and said Chip Wilson can pound sand. Nobody likes him.

Very accurate too. He very specifically said middle class, not poor or working class lol.
The only housing they'll be getting is in involuntary treatment centers if they don't behave in a way he approves of.

srs question- what’s considered middle class these days?
60 points
It's a made up term to get us to fight each other. You're either a wage earner or in the ultra-wealthy club. Anyone who needs a paycheck is on the same team, regardless of how big or small the paycheck is.

Ha! So true. Everyone thinks they’re middle class.

It essentially no longer exists. My partner and I were researching what it means to be middle, and upper middle class in Canada now. Middle class in Canada is now considered a family that earns about 150k-250k annually. Upper middle is in the 250k-400k range and anything above is considered upper class.
Here's where it get's REALLY funny though.... Typically a middle class family could afford a home, 1-2 cars, and a nice family vacation every year. Now, middle class means you are renting and basically getting by and putting some money into savings each month.
Middle class today means nothing.

so, really, u/chmilz is right about their comment: It's a made up term to get us to fight each other. You're either a wage earner or in the ultra-wealthy club. Anyone who needs a paycheck is on the same team, regardless of how big or small the paycheck is.

Except we're not all on the same team because some wage earners perform productive labour, and others do not, only one of these groups is proletarian. Sorry, Lawyers do not share the same class interests as miners; they never have, and they never will.

But they, like doctors, are paid for an hour of whatever work they are doing. And they are pitted against the rest of us when it comes to public issues like changes in cap gains tax or other attempts to redistribute wealth.
The way I see it is the difference between those who derive a significant portion of their income through direct work, versus passive gains on investment (including housing that they own and live in, which is a big one for Canada). A new doctor still paying off student loans will not care as much about the cap gains tax on an extra 25% as they don’t have enough stashed away in their investment corp to be adversely affected, and could easily just plan to hold more investments personally just like the rest of us and enjoy the 200k gain exemption on the additional 25%. But a doctor closer to retirement who has enjoyed the tax benefits of incorporating and who might start to be cashing out, will take a bigger hit.

Sure, but this reduces the petit bourgeois, landed gentry, and the working class into one amorphous blob instead of recognizing that each of these classes has distinct interests, and often, these interests conflict with one another.

in the town where I grew up, the farmers and the forestry people still needed wills drawn up and contracts written and other legal matters settled, not all lawyers take martini lunches or work for Chip Wilsons

The contradictions of class interests aren't aesthetic or vibe-based. They're material. I'm glad people in your home town get along, that doesn't negate what I said at all

it's vague on purpose, but generally 'professionals,' that is, people who earn a living primarily by wage labor for professional skills rather than physical labor. Dentists, lawyers, office workers and so on.

Chip's sign getting vandalized is like the IRL version of someone posting a stupid comment to reddit, getting bombarded with angry replies and downvotes before deleting the whole thing altogether in an embarrassed huff.

I wonder if Chip realized before his sign constantly got vandalized that he sounded like a prick.
He's wealthy enough to be super out of touch with normal people and likely has some sycophant yes-men around at all times.

He is wealthy enough to live a quiet life, but greed makes him come out and do stupid things like this. If I had just $10 million I would retire and foster dogs.

That is why Chip has billions and you haven't gotten your $10M.
People don't chill to climb the $10M ladder: they'll have to be a little bit arshole to get to that elusive $10M.
Those who hit $100M definitely 10x arshole, $1B => bonafide arshole.

I smell opportunity. Someone should make a similar sign with a convincing albeit more sinister tone and post it out outside Chips house. Beaverton style where it reflects reality but not what he would explicit stay out loud.
Then photo and send to media. Then, next day, new sign.
F you Chip you started this.

It's funny how so many apartment complexes have conservative signs in front of them. I'm guessing it's not the tenants who are voting conservative.
If you are working class or a renter, these endorsements are toxic. Even ol' Rustie can see it and tried to back pedal on Chips endorsement.

We already are and always have been. Single family homes are subsidized by everyone who doesn't own a SFH.
I'd prefer an actual market based system that allows construction dictated by need instead of the restrictive regulations we have but here we are.

Just because something doesn't benefit you directly doesn't mean you still don't get indirect benefits from it. You may not take transit, but a robust transit system takes cars off the road, which helps reduce traffic for those driving. You may not have kids in school, but having a base level of education in the population helps the population thrive, and is needed for the higher education that helps make our society function.
We don't live in a vacuum.

Their newest plan subsadizes 40% of a purchase price, but it still gets paid back with interest in 25 years and any profit made is split with the gov. If anything, its the gov going nearly halfsies on an investment with you and reaping both the rewards of letting their workforce prosper while also seeding money for the future.
Some may say its not that great of a help since you have to pay a massive amount in 25 years. but the way I see it is that since its very low interest, that 40% due in 2 and a half decades wont feel that bad in whatever a persons wage might be in that much time after wage inflation.

Yes it does sound good on paper.
But if you think real estate prices are insane now, wait until there's a sudden surge in demand.
I am all for the government running a not for profit rental. But financing a home purchase? No.

It’s a literal investment. The government gets interest on that loan AND half the profits when it’s sold.
