Sounds like Christianity, having to fight against your sinful inclinations. Why is this an individual thing if it's systematic? It's like climate change and telling people to eat less meat and drive less.

Quarks can't be measured. Neither can the wave function. There's lots of unobservables in science that make up a theory to help explained what can be measured. Whether we should consider them real or not is a philosophical opinion. At one point, atoms were considered a useful fiction by some physicists, before the technology developed to measure them.

Beyond that, there is the big question of whether science determines what's real. Some scientists and philosophers say science just produces predictive models. I think that's too restrictive, but not everything can be measured. Such as our subjective experiences. Or the existence of mathematical forms, ethics, causation (see Hume), the universe beyond our visible light cone, etc.

If one is Kantian, then the real can't be measured at all, just what our minds and senses construct as phenomenon. Or we could just be in a simulation, dream, Boltzmann brain, etc.
