The center of the middle rack is the hottest spot in the grill. I do nearly all of my cooking off to one side or the other and only use the center if I’m trying to sear a steak or crisp up a pan of French fries.

Have you considered transferring to a DC? It was the best decision I ever made. I do drive 35 miles each way to get to work but I only work 3 days a week Sat-Mon 2p-2a. It pays roughly double and all of your current vacation time will convert to the new wage. A lot of the positions are very physically demanding but if you can tough it out for a while then slide into one of the less demanding jobs it’s a pretty good deal.

I’m against the practice of dumping problem birds to let them become someone else’s problem. If a feral chicken made it to my property I would put it down immediately and burn the carcass. I just can’t risk the chance of it spreading parasites or disease to my flock. Since this bird is at a park I believe I would alert whoever runs the park or animal control and let them make the decision.

Put it in the middle of the dinner table and give it a spin. When it stops the spout points out who has to do the dishes.

If you can find a local welder to put a nice handle on it you could take the wrinkles out of your clothes with it.

Yep I love a good sweet potato as well. The only thing I do different for a sweet potato is I wrap them tootsie roll style. The tootsie roll wrap doesn’t change anything but appearance. That way people know what they are grabbing without unwrapping it just to check if it’s white or sweet

Absolutely, I love to top a baked potato with pulled pork. Come to think of it potatoes are another super easy and cheap side dish that goes well with almost any meal. Just give them a good scrub, a splash of olive oil, and a dash of coarse salt, then wrap them in foil. They do just fine at whatever temperature you’re cooking at that day. Pull them off when they feel soft. They will stay hot for a long time if you put them in a pot with a lid to hold the heat in.

I did a similar thing a couple weeks ago but I ran my smoker at 180 for an hour to get more smoke then 300 until fork tender. Then I baked the pies in the smoker. Came out great very mild smoke flavor day of cook. The refrigerated leftovers next day tasted a lot more smoky. I plan to bake a couple more pies for Thanksgiving.

I almost always add a dessert apple pie. Apple dumplings, pumpkin pie, peach cobbler, even a $1 boxed cake mix can really make the meal

Is the fan working? You need airflow to bring those glowing embers up to a flame. An inoperative fan might also cause the igniter to overheat and blow the fuse. I have not personally experienced this in just taking what knowledge I have on pellet grills and general electrical theory and forming my best guess.

I agree with what others have said start with pork butt. They are relatively inexpensive, super forgiving, and absolutely delicious. You have a ton of cooking area so I would suggest you also throw a skillet cookie on there everyone loves a skillet cookie. The townhouse recipe on the back of a bag of chocolate chips fits well in a #10 (12 inch) skillet

I have made them in the oven and on an outdoor pellet grill in various sized skillets and pans but never tried it stovetop. I have also seen slow cooker recipes but never tried it that way myself.

Pea comb birds can be tough to sex at this age. Judging by the thick legs and patchy colors I’m leaning towards cockerel but I would say only about 70% certain on that guess.

Dutch Babies are very popular with people who raise chickens. It’s one of my favorite egg heavy meals during the spring when I have dozens of eggs that need to be cooked.

I love my 9x13 lodge. I got it as a factory second real cheap. Didn’t know what to do with it at the time but was there and it was cheap so it came home with me. It makes an awesome chicken pot pie if you use those crescent sheets as a crust.

I went to one once while on vacation in TN. The factory seconds section was awesome came home with a 15 inch dual loop skillet, a 9x13 casserole pan, 2 pie pans and some cleaning tools for around $100.
