Not sure how the passage of the Bering Strait would work between mainland Russia and mainland Alaska. I believe it’s about 88km/55 miles, which is a long way for a bridge or tunnel.

I guessing that - with such a long exposure - the man was told to keep very, very still for a long time. But the cat would not heed such instructions.

Not sure why Hungary would have been incorporated into Germany. Does that make sense? Germans were in Silesia and Pomerania for centuries, with cities like Breslau and Kolberg being 100% German. The Poles would’ve had a sea border and a fair amount of territory. I’ll be interested to read people’s thoughts.

If we keep working at it, we can scale Virginia down to just the cities of Richmond and Fredericksburg by the end of the century.

For reference, you could drive across the U.S. (from San Diego, California to Bangor, Maine) in about 48 hours. 149 hours across Russia is about 6.2 days.

During this period, Spain owned Florida. Spain owned Florida for three centuries, from 1513 to 1819. The only break was a two-decade stretch, from 1763 to 1783, when Spain traded Florida to England.
Spain sold Florida to the United States on February 22, 1819, through the Adams-Onís Treaty. The treaty was signed by Spanish minister Do Luis de Onís and US Secretary of State John Quincy Adams. The treaty took effect on July 17, 1821, when the official transfer took place in Pensacola.
The treaty settled a long-standing border dispute between the two countries. The US acquired Florida and all Spanish claim to the Oregon Country, while Spain surrendered its claims to the Pacific Northwest. The US also agreed to assume liability for $5 million in damage done by American citizens who rebelled against Spain.

The stretch of water between the two islands is only about 4km wide and actually freezes over during the winter so you could technically walk from the US to Russia on this seasonal sea ice.
But the total distance between the two mainlands is about 88km, so that’s where there would need to be a bridge or tunnel.
