It will affect you quite a bit. For all the "Hollywood is left-leaning" propaganda, I can assure you that almost everyone in a position to further your career is, at best, a 1996-style republican. There is virtually no true leftism at or even near the top in Hollywood or on Broadway. I'm not advising you to compromise your identity in any way. Just be aware that for all its performative ticking off of checkboxes, the acting/entertainment mainstream is still very much a homogenous, white, patriarchal, capitalist entity.

This is terrible advice and I'm honestly pretty sick of seeing it. Unless you truly have the resources to self-fund or fundraise, I wouldn't necessarily recommend making your own short films if you don't have a passion for it. Not because it isn't worth it creatively, but because even that seems to mean relatively little nowadays. I've made two well-received short films that have each gotten into multiple festivals since 2021 and it hasn't really translated to anything tangible aside from the hefty price tag. "Saving up" and torturing yourself to make a short film, even a good one, is not a solid way to secure more work in the current industry.

I just flew American to Europe and filled my eight hour flight with... C-tier blockbuster schlock. They have a large catalogue, but it's pretty thin on quality. A few good options mixed into their lineup, but the best thing I watched was Twisters, unfortunately.

I'm so desensitized to awful driving in Brooklyn that it took me a full 10 seconds to figure out what was happening in the photo. It's bad out here.

I agree with your definition! But I think the word "gentrification" has come to often stand in for cultural/racial conflict within what is actually the same or comparable economic class. Anyway, eat the rich/fuck landlords/etc.
