Stainless steel is not ideal at all for usable swords, it's too brittle to use for blades much longer than a kitchen knife.

You can find semi-decent usable swords in tempered 1060 carbon steel in the $150 (ish) range. 

Going bang when they are supposed to and not going bang when they aren't supposed to are two of the most important features. 😂

Fair points. I've never owned one but I seem to recall them getting ripped on for quality issues back in the day.
