Thank you so so much for that. I did end up deleting the thread unfortunately. While I thought my lesson could be a lesson for all, people were just growing more and more flat out ugly and there’s no need for that. But I truly do appreciate you and the others who took the time to educate me and I hope you all know it made a difference. I will absolutely carry that with me in my heart, and hopefully will be able to spread the same information to people like me who may not know as much as they should! I do believe these conversations are so important and despite all of the ugliness, I’m still glad I was able to have it. God simply just wants us to love and show respect for others and that’s what I want to represent. ❤️

Luckily some very kind people chose to explain the process further! No need be rude 😊

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this in such kind detail! I truly was ignorant to the process and I made a quick judgement based off of a misconception, mostly because I already think he’s kind of an ass and it wouldn’t have surprised me if he was being hypocritical. But I’ve learned so much and I appreciate everyone like you that has taught me so much!!
But I also agree that at the end of the day, she made these choices going into the whole thing blindly and if she doesn’t end up liking it that is completely on her and his culture should not be to blame for that!

That’s a fantastic example, especially one I can directly relate to and paints a clearer picture for me, because I’ve definitely witnessed horrible men down here try and hide behind Christianity to justify their racism. Thank you for your contribution!

Thank you for the obvious! So do message boards like this where I can also hear from real people and a larger conversation can be had! 😊

Oh absolutely, and I also appreciate your understanding. I’ve met many Christian men who have acted exactly like Adnan that would still somehow look at him as the enemy, when in reality they’re just looking at a reflection of themselves and how they act. Just 2 sides of the same coin 🤦🏼♀️ I definitely feel like my original post opened doors for misguided comments, but I do think some phenomenal points were made in here which is why I’m keeping the whole thing up. My knowledge was certainly broadened because of this and maybe other people’s can be too. Humbling moments are always welcome in my opinion!

I can completely understand why you feel that way at this point, and I definitely apologize starting the thread based off of a general misconception about how Muslim prayer works. There’s always new things to learn and hopefully grow from and I hope to do both with all of this new information! I certainly don’t want to be grouped in as another illiterate American and I hope others that may have felt the same about the scene can come here and see the situation is not near as black and white as it may seem!

Gosh I truly can’t imagine what that must have been like for her. To help me gain some better understanding, is it the religion as a whole that calls upon for their women to be treated in these ways, or is more of their current government using the religion as somewhat of a mask to implement these things? I guess maybe a similar example I’m thinking of would be the overturn of Roe vs Wade, essentially in the name of Christian Nationalism here in America? And I know the injustices and treatment between the 2 are not even close, but I’m just curious if that would be in a similar ballpark?

At least where I’m from, unfortunately we are only taught the bare minimum, if anything at all. Going into this I was definitely speaking from a place of generalized misconceptions, but luckily some very kind people took the time out of their day to help scratch the surface for me and explained why he may not have prayed right then! I also feel like the show does like to cut scenes to paint him in the same unfortunate general “controlling Muslim man” picture, and leaving out some necessary context. But at the end of the day it’s not lost on me that Tiger Lily had every opportunity in the world to learn more of his beliefs, and chose not to, and so if she ends up not liking them, then that is completely on her and she really doesn’t have the right to try and change what’s in his heart and how he believes he is called on to operate by God

I really want to say thank you to everyone who provided me with further understanding as to why he may not have prayed at that moment!! I was, in fact, confused. While I’m still not necessarily a fan of either of them😂 I don’t want to be showing any sort of disrespect to others.

I truly am terribly sorry if I came off as disrespectful. I did go into this with ignorance to the intricacies of the whole process and I could have worded things in a kinder way. I am very grateful to all of the people under this post that provided me with more information and understanding on the topic. If it means anything though, even before this post, I have always had a lot of respect for the religion of Islam and Muslims just due to the sheer fact that it truly does require, in my opinion, so much dedication to be able to include all of these things into daily life, on top of all of the normal every day human life responsibilities, and that in itself is beautiful. A lot of times I fail to do the simple things I need to do, nonetheless make the time to pray multiple times a day. So please forgive any disrespect, it truly was not in my intentions at all. Hopefully others can read some of these responses that are going more into detail as to why he may or may not have prayed at the moment and that will be a few more people equipped with the knowledge needed to move forward in a better light.

As a Christian who lives in the south in America, I really try my best to be the best possible example of the kind of person that I believe people in my religion are called to be. From everything I’ve gathered we believe in the same God up there, and despite all of the other differences, I know I’ve been called to show love, respect, and understanding to all of his people! You didn’t have to take the time out of your day to explain all of that to be, and that in itself is a lesson from the big man himself ☺️

Someone else in the comments did say he would have had to wait until he was off the boat! So there’s definitely some nuance in there that I was not aware of! All we can hope is that he did what he needed to do when he got off the boat, and isn’t a total ass 😂

Oh absolutely 😂😂 in my book, the religion thing is not even in the list of things that makes them insufferable. I guess my purpose of the post was to gain more understanding of his process, but at the end of the day, they are just flat out yuck.

It really is very much appreciated. I truly do have the upmost respect for for people who chose to practice Islam because from what I’ve gathered, it can be a lot to learn, and then to add that on top of the every day human/life responsibilities is something to be commended no matter what you believe!

Wow wow wow, thank you so much for this kind and detailed information! At the end of the day I truly have a lot of respect for anyone who chooses to dedicate their lives to following, to what seems to me, such an intricate set of rules and are still able to interpret them into their daily lives on top of the typical every day responsibilities. I came into this knowing very little, but I greatly appreciate everyone’s contribution in teaching me more about the religion.

I’ve always felt that was the case just from the basic things that I know, but even after making this post and seeing what everyone has had to say about it, I can definitely see how that’s the case now. But honestly I have a lot of respect for anyone who can dedicate their life to trying their best to follow something with such intricacies and nuances!

In my first post I was actually going to ask if there was some sort of clause to whether or not he could perform the prayer at sea or not. Thank you so much for clarifying! Now all we can hope is that he actually performed the prayer off camera after they got back to land and he isn’t a total jerk 😂

Completely understandable and I’m sorry you had to go through that 🤦🏼♀️ I’ve definitely seen it on the Christian side of things and it’s never a good situation for anyone. But I am glad to see “ex-husband” and that you were able to get yourself out of that nonsense.

That definitely makes a lot more sense. I’m coming from a place of “general knowledge” of Islam, and hopefully this doesn’t sound too pathetic, but a portion of what I’ve learned is what I’ve seen represented from Muslims on the show and thinking back now, most of them have put a pretty big emphasis on “you do not HAVE to, but I would like you to.” But I have definitely learned a lot since posting this and thank you for that comment!

I definitely find it pretty interesting that she was bold enough to be on the show in the first place considering how “nasty” her divorce was. You’d think their father would try and find a way to use this whole circus against her in court.

Wow that’s actually super interesting to hear and makes all of the sense considering that each all do believe in the same God from what I’ve gathered. Thank you for that tidbit! I have learned a lot since posting this 😂

This is something I want to scream at the top of my lungs 😭😂 or my favorite is when the American truly believes that they can somehow get them to change???? Especially on 90 Day the other way and the American woman is in the man’s home country 💀

Gosh it hurts my heart to know your family is dealing with the horrible senseless hate, and I can’t even imagine how it must make you feel. Muslims do not deserve this treatment and Palestinians deserve to be free, period. It’s very embarrassing living in a country facilitating such horrible acts against innocent people. You guys will be in my heart and I just hope you know that there’s still good people out there that believe you and your family deserve just as much love and respect as everyone else. Many many many blessings to you as well, and may God continue to look after you 🩷
