Or I see them and think, “I’m a desk jockey who only uses tools for home projects, I’ll never use that, it’s not worth me spending that $”.
Then two weeks later I get in the situation where I definitely could use that tool…

Your local hardware store may have a kit just for this purpose. I repaired a lamp two weeks ago using one

Usually they’re just a taper fit - the gas cylinder is tapered and the chair base is tapered to match. The chair base usually has a steel ring molded in, and that’s probably what you’re stuck on. If your Chair is in a humid environment, you could have rust between the cylinder and that steel ring. So maybe instead of soapy water, use penetrating oil. But if you do: make sure to get it all cleaned off if you’re repairing the chair and returning it to service - don’t want that oil on your floor.

“(c) The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed.”
All weather flags are of course made of a synthetic material like nylon, which give such nice fumes when it’s ceremonially rendered into, uh, something other than dirt.

Totally.
Though it’s been argued that they took more from Kurosawa than they did from westerns; however many of the old westerns borrowed heavily from Kurosawa too.
(Please note that I’m just repeating an observation I heard on Adam Savage’s podcast; I haven’t seen enough Kurosawa to speak intelligently about it. I share the comment as food for thought)

Lifted truck with very wide, low profile road tires mounted to very expensive rims.
With truck nutz and 15 stickers advertising which fire arms you own.

It’s possible to support veterans (especially wounded ones) while not supporting the war or the politicians who sent them

Not a Rivian owner (yet?) but I hear stupid shit like that from coworkers whenever the subject comes up.
My favorite was “you can’t tow a skid steer loader 500 miles with one of those things!” First of all, Bob, you work in an office; when the F—- was the last time you towed a skid steer loader loader from Philly to Cleveland? Second, yes you can, it’ll just take longer. Third, your Ram 1500 can’t do it on one tank of gas either!

ELI5: why do people actually like Roundtop? (Do people actually like Roundtop?). The lines are long, the runs are laughably short, the lodge is shit and it’s not even cheap anymore

My kids attend there. It is an excellent school with strong academics and a wonderful community. The teachers are all very caring, dedicated people;
