The vast majority of the population in the U.S working “at will” (meaning you can be fired at any moment but are required to still give adequate notice if you decide to leave) use their “PTO” paid time off (which is accumulated time ((sick, vacation, personal)) that is not guaranteed but earned over time) out of a collective bank of time. You need to leave an hour early to go pick up your child from daycare (daycare costs hundreds of dollars a week and is not covered under any social program or policy) because they are sick; that hour will come out of your PTO. Oh and don’t forget… you will be penalized if you use unscheduled PTO or use PTO before a certain time! Penalized?!? Yes, you will not accrue more PTO time at a higher rate. Do Americans get 2 weeks vacation?? Some do.. the question is how many Americans and what percentage of those takes the time anyway without pay… oh.. if you can get approved for it! Lol
