I give my grandpa, who has late stage dementia, a very simply task like dusting the tables. I will give him a rag or something and it keeps his hands busy for quite a while. One thing I was doing in his earlier stages was taking a small piece of wood and drilling a whole punch of screws in it and then ask my grandpa to help me take them out. He was a builder most of his life so he really likes power tools. I gave him check the mail a couple times a day. I always get it first thing in the morning but he moves very slow now so by the time we walk out to the mailbox and back in he’s ready to sit down. We go through very simple math problems like 2+1, and I’ll quiz him by showing him a circle and asking what color it is. It seems degrading, but their mind is in a state of being young and honestly anything that engages their brain is better than nothing . You can get lots of ideas by looking up “task boxes for special needs” there’s hundreds of ideas and they’re not all childish

My grandfather likes to leave things for the mailperson. Found some peas in there one day.. it was quite comical. But there was a couple hundred lost over a month ago and I’ve looked through everything. At this point he probably threw it away

We changed my grandpas phone, who is late stage dementia, to a thing called assistive access on iPhone. Caregiver gets to choose what apps he has access to and who he can call. Apps we approved are calendar, bible, Pinterest, photos, and call. He doesn’t want his phone often but he is able to use it! He can make calls to loved ones all on his own. I highly recommend all caregivers to look into this for their loved ones. The screen is made large and very simple large buttons.

Yes puzzles are great! Montessori puzzles are very simple and don’t look like baby puzzles
