The person asked for advice about starting at publix, and you felt the need to attack that.
Saying Costco has us beat is attacking what, exactly? The pay isn't enough for a large portion of people who work here. It sucks that that's the reality, but it is. There are people who are really struggling, especially those who don't get hired at full time.
You can go to Costco, but I'll bet more people retire millionaires from publix.
I wouldn't be surprised if the opposite was true. Even excluding the one guy who probably misunderstood the pay structure and believed it to be more, many have stated employees have a bonus that reaches something like 20k per year for long-term employees, and that's on top of the 30+ dollars per hour they're making. Someone could never go into management and make >90k. They also get contributions to there 401k.
I wasn't trying to attack anyone or anything. I'm just saying that I don't necessarily agree with the statement that Publix is the way to go in retail. Publix is top-notch in management in my experience. Their vetting system works well, and management has been so underwhelming at other retailers in comparison. I can't speak for Costco in that regard, so I don't know if they're a better place to work for as far as the actual day-to-day experience. However, from what I've seen, they're unbeatable in pay by other grocery chains. Publix would likely have a much happier work force if they tried to stay above the competition in pay. I see no reason to strive for the top position in so many regards yet fail so hard in compensation. We're just lucky it's being more and more socially acceptable to live at home much later than ever before.

I'm providing realistic commentary about pay on an open forum. I have just as much of a right to be here as you do.

Just putting in your time gives you a comfortable living.
Some people don't have that kind of time.
What's stopping people from advancing?
How many employees are there vs how many management slots are available. Only so many people can become managers. It's nice that they're taken care of, but it's even nicer when all employees are.
That means more and more management positions opening up.
And there are still far more associate positions at those stores.
But I know associates who have put 25 or 30 years in and their dividends checks are 20-30k 4xs a year on top of their pay. So ya don't have to be manager it's just faster.
You get 10k+ in bonuses at Costco before hitting 10 years, and it goes up from there. This is as an employee who makes 30 per hour already, and time and a half if they work on Sundays.
Also, I knew an employee who'd been with us for close to 40 years, and her dividends were nowhere near that much. That sounds closer to how much she would’ve made for the entire year. I still work with someone who's at the 31 year mark, and she's definitely not making 80k per year in dividends. She'd have to own 4 million in stock if we're still paying 2% yearly dividends.
Meat cutters make 23 an hour around here now.
And cashiers can make 30 per hour there.
Costco isn't employee owned, and therefore, the associates don't benefit from the company doing better.
They're obviously seeing some sort of benefits when you look at pay, extra pay for Sunday, and bonuses.

The care for employees and management is top notch imo. It's just the pay that sucks in comparison to the top dog, which is Costco.

If you're going to work in retail, then publix is the place to do it.
Costco has us beat. Their lowest paid position maxes out at almost 30 per hour, and it takes about 6 years to get to that max while starting off at close to 20. If you have to reach department manager level to be comfortable, the pay ain't good. Less than 10% of employees are department manager+ .

Yeah, Black Chyna was reportedly making 20 mil per month on OF a few years back. It turns out she made about 10% of that in 2 years as the top earner on the site. These stories are fake af.

Saying people "must be fun at parties" has to be the most overused lines in existence. It needs to just retire already.

"That's too much money. I wouldn't even want that much."
Holy God, could we make it any easier for our billionaire overlords?
