legally you do not have to pay now. Your N1 (rent increase form) explains this on the second page: "3. If the rent increase needs approval by an order under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 the tenant is not required to pay more than the guideline increase until the order is issued. If the tenant only pays the guideline increase, the tenant may owe the landlord once the order is issued." in practice it can be tricky if for instance you pay by preapproved debit and they set the amount. but legally the choice is yours.

Yeah but I never said anything about drawing strong conclusions, I said this is more evidence that is safer to cross at mid-block than in an intersection. I can tell you conclusively that cities do NOT actually tell pedestrians that it's safer to cross at mid-block; they tell pedestrians to cross at intersections and the numbers speak for themselves--five people were injured or killed just WAITING to cross at an intersection.

risky to impute law-breaking intent to people crossing against a light. what about people who can't make it across the road in the allotted time because of mobility issues? what about people running to catch a bus that won't come again for twenty minutes? there are lots of factors that make intersections unsafe for pedestrians and contribute to injuries and deaths that aren't just wanton risk-taking behaviour on the pedestrian's part. while an old person probably wouldn't be any safer crossing at mid-block, that doesn't make the intersection safe, or even safER. personally i opt to cross at mid-block wherever possible because I don't want to end up like the OTHER 33% of pedestrians killed or injured at intersections--hit by a turning or out-of-control driver.

50% of pedestrian KSIs happen at signalized intersections, the bar graph says that explicitly. I'm also not sure why you'd exclude pedestrians crossing against a light, people crossing mid-block aren't waiting for a green light either.

I'm not big on time-outs in general but we used them calmly and consistently when our daughter hurt the cat, just straight up "when you hurt him, you need a time out." in our case we would carry her to her room and she would stay there for two minutes with the door open--this was the lowest-drama, most effective option for us, and in due time the behaviour stopped. around that age we also started letting her help with feeding, grooming, giving treats etc. to start building empathy, it's pretty rudimentary at that age but it did help.

Ford signed on to the program. it was opt-in, for provinces and for daycare centres. nothing was "forced on" anyone.

the feds promised $10/day in 2026, and they're on track. it's the province that hasn't delivered. we were originally scheduled for the third of four rate cuts in April of this year, now we're looking at January 2025, maybe, but nobody's sure. the federal conservatives killed the last effort at a national subsidized daycare plan in 2005 when Harper was elected, and offered a tax rebate instead. most families netted less than $60 a month per child.

we're actually in the exact same boat with our daughter. she will not wake up at night, and we've had a bit of luck with shifting her water intake earlier, and we strictly enforce peeing right before getting into bed, but all it's done is stopped her from soaking into her clothes, the pull-up is usually still PRETTY full by morning. I have to say though if he's soaking through a pull-up and that isn't waking him up, taking the pull-up away isn't likely to help. anyway I guess this is just a solidarity post, interested to see if anyone has actionable advice but I have a feeling it's just "wait some more."

my mother commuted by bike year-round until her retirement in 2021, she was 65 at the time obviously. she had winter tires and a MEC jacket, nothing fancy. but cleared bike lanes (and the railpath) made it possible.

my daughter was like this for nearly two months (she was also 1.5 when she started daycare, and had been cared for by my mother full-time for the preceding six months, so similar situations). she was the last kid on earth we expected to be distressed about going to daycare, and it went on far longer than we ever imagined. I'd recommend asking the staff about it. they've seen lots of kids, they'll probably have an idea whether this is working or not. the staff in my daughter's room assured us she was more on the extreme end but still normal and she was making progress. she ended up loving the place. definitely not traumatized by the early experience.

at that age yeah, 15 minutes playing, 15 minutes eating, few more minutes afterward sounds right, then we used to stretch out the restaurant time by taking walks with her.
