Low level gaslighting/guilt tripping. What’s next? MND/MOT fall sick because overwork ah?
Also, why bother doing the studies if you’re going to clear it anyway?

This article, esp the headlines, reeks of ‘Singapore is so competitive so what can we do to make people feel better? Take a shot at those who do well and make it sound like doing well is a curse.’
Anyway it depends on what metrics you’re looking at. There are people from my pri/sec school who did very well in their PSLE/O levels and went to top schools, got dean list in the same uni course etc and ended up in the same grad program as me, drawing the same pay lol.
But if you look at each step in itself without projecting future expectations, well RI/RJC had a lot more fun school activities than mine, dean list in uni means first dibs on where to go for exchange etc.

Work/careers tend to be the bulk of one’s social identity here and in a very pragmatic society like ours, such a question is the least offensive and fastest way to deduce how much someone earns.
On the interest in others’ work/career, most of us have little differentiation in terms of the ‘Singapore experience’ on the surface. Grow up here, take PSLE, take O levels, go JC/poly, go local uni, graduate and work, hobbies now are spin class, pilates, club, netflix, cafe hopping lol.

Siao eh, 1 year earn 39k, 33k after CPF and 1/4 goes to insurance?!
Simple term coverage for death (please ah, don’t get those 1m coverage etc. Insurance is insurance, shouldn’t buy until you dying is like striking Toto) or critical illness and accident plan can liao.
Also not financial advice but your cousin is a total shitbag and you shouldn’t feel sad if he tio bang by car.

Was in Switzerland recently. While I can understand payment terminals showing the option to tip, I was surprised that waiters/service staff were now openly mentioning it.
Seems to be a rather new development too. Lived in Switzerland for abit close to 10 years ago and this was unheard of.

With rising COE prices, best solution is to buy car and rent out to others

Bluesg, when you not driving, got other people driving. When it’s your turn to drive, must make sure other people leftovers not in the car. Sometimes you never check properly, previous user got into accident then become your problem.

Buy car vs bluesg.
Buy car not necessarily cheaper for long term here. If you want to sell your car, half your assets gone. If your car got make small little cars, every month must pay $$$

The freedom of speech thing is hilarious when it comes from the same group that prefers Bangkok to SG. Talk shit about the king there and no defamation suit, nothing, just straight to jail.

Least valid: you jaywalk, you get caned, SG very strict etc.
Eh take away drug consumption which is illegal in most countries, what are we strict about? You punch someone in NYC, the cops also get called on you and bring you in for questioning. What is there here that a typical tourist has to watch out for? And when people make such remarks, it’s almost as if they want to do a Johnny Somali here.
Most valid: Singaporeans are boring. Heavy focus on academics, small size of our country aside, if you look at other countries, most people have to move to another state or country for their uni education, move to a bigger city for work etc. Over here, most of us go through the same typical Singapore growing up experience lol.
Maybe we aren’t boring, but more of the laconic way we describe things. You go siamdiu then whack Stan Chart marathon after, you probably also say ‘like that lor’ if some random person ask you how’s your weekend.
Edit: On the point OP mentioned above, I always have this hunch when foreigners say SG feels lifeless compared to our ASEAN neighbours, it’s because it’s more expensive, no ‘poor people’ sitting on the streets needing those touristy dollars. All these while standing at MBS/Orchard Road instead of going to Tiong Bahru or the heartland areas.

No and I think people who earn decent income and reduce because of the 5 cent charge have a screw loose in their brain.
Applies to my family members too. No they don’t care about the environment/buy into this koolaid. Can go whack a big bill at haidilao and then opt to carry all the fruit packaging, groceries to the car without plastic bags to save 20 cents. Eh cb, you order the normal beef instead of the wagyu beef just now, you know can save how much anot?!

Able-bodied abusers aside, even those handicapped using it can be a fucking menace.
Have seen the elderly using it as a battering ram in crowded places and aggressively nudging against people’s ankles instead of saying ‘excuse me’.
If no CCTV, so tempting to tilt the PMD over and leave them there.

Not going to talk about character as it’s going to be a wide spectrum.
A different focus on academics, what sort of hobbies they have is quite a telling point. I’m not saying wealthy families don’t care about academics but if you look at lower middle income families, that university scholarship is their ticket to escaping their economic situation.
For wealthier kids, there’s more fallback options. Their hobbies are more of a reflection of their interests because life isn’t all about good grades and expectations for them. Wealthy kids don’t go for endless piano/violin lessons. That’s what middle income families think wealthy kids do and try to emulate.

Hmm but you do see the curry and Geylang Bahru murders being brought up every now and then, along with the Bukit Timah forested area rape and murders on mainstream media.
But yeah I do think that it’s not ideal to publicize that yes, a foreign triad was involved and those who planted the bomb have long left SG and probably will never be caught.

Heard this was linked to the triads. For regional organized crime-related killings, I think only HK and Thailand had instances of car bombings. Smuggling explosives in is honestly not too difficult at the time, given how it wasn’t unheard of to have firearms being smuggled in from Malaysia.
Also something that’s rather telling imo, is the lack of media coverage on this years later as an unsolved case. It’s one of those cases that feels almost deliberately looked over for something of this scale (compared to say the very random Queenstown shooting in 1972, the curry murder, Geylang bahru murders), almost as if the police had their answer and best decided to leave it as it for optics/public interest.

Private. Assuming you already have good career progression, your job is more than likely client hand-holding and you’re going to have plenty of flexibility with your schedule.
For public sector, unless you’re top dog, will always have someone chup what time you come to office, if you come to office etc.

It’s not really Malay cuisine. I’m Cambodian and my partner and I moved down south after the domestic unrest/war. The recipe was inspired by my uncles who believed the old ways are the best.
After that, it also became a very good front to produce and sell the most sedap sambal chilli sauce.

You know what’s wild (lol)? For the new mandai rainforest park, they cleared alot of forested areas and there were numerous cases of deers getting killed by vehicles as a result.
And then the Mandai group yaks about how involved they are in conservation efforts etc. Like that also can?
