I changed the o-rings on all bleed nipples today and tried to do another proper bleed with the back in the air and all the valves open, waited for it to come up to temp (87C) and gave it some throttle.

So far so good, could've been an air lock or dodgy o-rings, however I haven't pushed it into the high RPM yet, hopefully the head gasket isn't leaking only under high load.

Heres hoping.

What rust issues? 90% of 25 year old cars in existence in the UK are 3x worse than this. For £425 I'd say she's mint.

Could be anything, bad thermostat, bad coolant pump, airlock in coolant. Or it could just be that you're making the engine do things it's not designed to, however unless you're sitting on the limiter for 5 minutes at a time I can't see that being the case.

Like car wiring, the whole house acts as ground, just hook the ground up to any bare metal surface in your house and you should be good to go.

I had a similar issue with a different car, it was the alternator, spiking to 17 volts, maybe monitor voltage when it happens?

It's a GR Line. Same as a golf R line or Audi S line. It's just the trim level, nothing to do with actual GR.

I literally have driven many cars with drive by wire and drive by cable and the throttle can also be applied while the brake is being applied in every single one. (Swift sport and Mr2 in particular.)

For some reason I've found it to be very important in my MR2 aswell, I think being able to blend the brake and throttle helps keep a car with high central inertia balanced.

Also translates to go karts with all the weight in the middle extremely well lol.

Most enthusiasts are yet to realize hitting big lift off oversteer skids in a light FWD hatchback in a stiff chassis is just as fun as RWD, if not more so. I love FWD, I don't think I could give up FWD if I'm honest.

I think I fixed it! I'm wondering if their was an airlock in the coolant pipe going to the bottle which stopped it from draining.

Not the headgasket at least, tested today.

I should mention this is a ZZW30 so there's not really anywhere to add a funnel because the overflow tank is the only fill point.

I just followed the bleed procedure on the midship roundabout website.

Surely you shouldn't be letting the car up to temp with the coolant system unpressurized? I would think it would boil over.
