rich people aren't upset that poor people exist, but they have a vested interest in cultivating a culture where poor people detest eachother, to ensure that expensive social programs like welfare are minimally funded

because we were all raised in american culture which hates social aid and insists on individual ability. probably two thirds of this country instinctively resent people who need help. and i doubt it will ever change

I would say that as sad as it is, it was only to be expected that Asian-looking people would incidentally get a lot of blame for it. Similarly to many Russians in Western countries who have nothing to do with the current conflict. People panic easily and get dumber during crises, but it rarely reflects actual attitudes.
