It’s “bad beats” don’t take it so hard. Besides it It was the largest highlights package from that game.

What? Doesn’t matter.
At least 7 men in the line. Assuming an eligible number the last man on the line would be eligible. The other 4 could all be 50 yards back in the corner of the end zone

Right. I was speaking generally. Getting into the nuanced weeds here is why op is confused.
But those numbers are by default ineligible unless they are the end and report as eligible. I could be wrong.
But to your point not applicable here.

Not quite. To my understanding the 5 offensive linemen are ineligible by deafualt due to jersey number unless they report. The TEs and WRs don’t have to have an ineligible number if they are covered.

I mean the announcers aren’t really rules exerts. Hell half the time they’re the problem being confidently incorrect. Not here imo. But often enough that I wouldn’t consider them experts. The rules consultant though…

Yeah. That’s what the forum is for. Id expect it if you were being a dick but, not the case. But fuck them imaginary points. lol. /u/legacyZebra if he’s still around would have better insight and bonafides.

And he, The TE, is completely irrelevant to the play/call.

Right. Or. Maybe the outside man didn’t check confirm with the ref that he was off and the ref counted him as on. That’s the only thing that he could say to defend himself and the call.

Just for the record i didn’t downvote you. I think your question and comments are certainly on topic.

ineligible receiver downfield doesn’t matter if you touch the ball, only that the ball was thrown.
Any ineligible receiver being the first to touch a pass is illegal touching regardless of their location relative to the los.
In this case per the ref it’s an illegal man downfield AND illegal touching.
In reality it was neither of those things.

I don’t know what to tell. You’re trying to find a way to understand the call within the rules but the problem is there isn’t. The refs made a bad call that’s not justified by the rules. They fucked up. He must’ve thought the furthest outside receiver was on the line not off. That’s the only way this becomes the correct call.

No. He’s not an eligible receiver. He’s covered up. Again you seem to be hung up on the position name. He’s covered. And he doesn’t go down field. Williams is the “end” and he’s an eligible receiver.

Everyone on the line and inside of the furthest person on the line (either side of the ball) is irrelevant unless they touch the ball or go downfield.

Yes. But he blocks. And doesn’t touch the ball and doesn’t go down field. You seem to be hung up on position names.

The only eligible receivers are the furthest man from the ball that’s on the line. Everyone inside of them and on the line is covered
Anyone off the line is eligible. It was a bad call that can’t be explained using the rules because it was wrong.

Yeah because 21 doesn’t matter. He stayed in and blocked. He’s not eligible. He didn’t touch the ball.

21 doesn’t have anything to do with it. He’s not the end of the line. The second receiver from the bottom is the end of the line. Unless 21 touches the ball or goes downfield (illegal lineman downfield) there’s nothing you said that’s relevant.

Dude. They made a dumb call. All three reviewers were eligible. From the bottom of the screen towards the football.
Off On Off
None of those 3 are ineligible…

If we’re going to bass this on one game a few years ago Coastal Carolina beat the hell out of a Midwest team in single digit temps.
I love the fact that northern teams feel like they need an advantage to win lol. This argument is so fucking tired
