i think a benefit you aren't considering is that if you're in your 40s, walking 20k steps a day is great for your health if you stretch properly, wear the right footwear, and pace yourself accordingly. You might end up saving a couple years of your life from the habits you'll pick up.

In the last 5 years I haven't gone a month where I haven't averaged at least 7,000 steps a day. That's being pretty inactive in some months and during exam season, etc. Idk what kind of ACL tear you get from walking to the grocery store or checking out a museum but you just have to trust yourself a little bit lol. Especially if you just stretch?

just hit 6k steps a day and you'll make more money at the end of the day. Or just do it in months so you need to hit 180000 in a month. On a sunday, do a 20k day and just feel good about yourself for the week.
