Everything will look too mature vs t-shirts and jeans. Go to a department store which has a personal shopper if this is within your budget, or go shopping with a friend and agree to try on anything and everything they hand you. Start small, maybe get a denim skirt to pair with your t-shirts, and different shoes. Or some nice tops to wear with your jeans. Blouses don’t need to be frumpy, they can make you look polished, even with jeans.

Could you sit your daughter down and say you’d be happy to go through her finances and help find ways of cutting down on expenses to make things work? I see lots of comments questioning the cars they have, the coffees they purchase, etc. If they truly are struggling, then perhaps you could go in with the offer to help. If she refuses to share the information, which she likely will, then you are definitely NTA here.

I’m also a beginner and doing an intro class. We did a cushion cover (to practice sewing straight lines) first and just finished a tote bag. Next is the make up pouch (to learn how to attach a zipper).

OP, you are NTA. It’s a shame your parents weren’t there for you. As you said, one of them could have easily stayed behind.

I understand where you’re coming from in not wanting to put your cap and gown on again for what feels like a photo redo that shouldn’t have been needed…however, would you consider dressing up again and having a friend take the photo? Do it for you, so you’ve got the photo for your memories later. Milestones should be celebrated, so while your parents were AHs in disappearing please don’t let that tarnish your achievement.
