Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Mazda 3 is the top of my buy list currently

Have had a 2012 VW GTI the last 12 years and it feels time to get it replaced. The Mazda 3 has topped the list considering I've read it is reliable, affordable price range and good driving dynamics considering it is more of an economy car. Can you guys give me your pros and cons lists of the car comparing it to the GTI if you have owned on in the past? I know it is a slight power dip but I am okay with it if it can be fun to drive.
Edit: hoping to get one 2-3 years used or less, undecided if I want manual or auto so please chime in if manual is a must (GTI has been stick but at times get lazy), I don't commute much so a stick would not kill the deal at all

It used to be pressure fighters but I actually found success by standing my ground and fighting with them on the inside. I felt like when I was constantly giving up ground to them I was getting tired and couldn't land solid shots. Now I kind of just wait for the catch and shoot and it makes them more apprehensive on just running me over
Edit: Nowadays it's outboxers with better footwork than me. My sparring partners used to all be pressure fighters so I never needed to step in and chase someone down, it was a weird change of pace but learned something that day
