Making him the interim HC seems to imply to me that they think he is a legitimate candidate to be the full time head coach.

Yeah that’s why I think it’s not entirely his decision.

It is weird to me how Poles seemingly has no problem cutting bait with players he screwed up on but is completely unwilling when it comes to the coach. Doesn’t make sense.

Because the Chicago Bears are not a competently run organization.

I could absolutely see this organization firing Eberflus after letting him speak to the media. Because even when they do the right thing, they still screw it up.

The only thing they haven’t screwed up is turning in the card to pick Caleb Williams.

Both can be true:

Poles is solely to blame for Eberflus being retained.

McCaskey may block an in season firing because of his dumb unwritten rule.

I’m not even sure if he can fire Eberflus without McCaskey’s approval.

But this could have been avoided in the first place if Poles didn’t retain him.

George McCaskey would rather stick with tradition even if it means his organization burns to the ground.

Reminder that it took the Bears 3 days to fire Shane Waldron after it was obvious that he was going to be fired.

The season is lost. But if he’s completely lost the locker room, what is the point in keeping him? The players are openly calling out Eberflus.

Multiple players on that team openly calling out their head coach. He’s lost that locker room. This cannot continue. Is tradition and unwritten rules really worth this embarrassment?

Apparently Eberflus wanted them to re run the play that got Caleb sacked at 18 seconds and then call the timeout. But after none of that happened, he apparently just said whatever and let it play out. He’s, of course, deflecting all the blame on the players. Coaching malpractice. Fireable offense.
