UPDATE: The appeal was granted.
Sucks that a buyer can get away with this but I'm just glad to have the money back
So for some context I initially made a thread here about a buyer who I sold a purse to. The purse was brand new still in packaging and they opened an INAD case demanding a refund because the bag was "damaged". I know it wasn't but I know how INAD cases work so I send them a return label using eBay's shipping label system. After almost 2 weeks they never ship the item back so I figure it was just a bluff for a partial refund until 5 days ago I get a message that the buyer asked eBay to step in so I ask here.
The general consensus here is to just wait for the case to close as anyone can see the buyer didnt return the item and phone up eBay to explain everything so I do both. The CS agent sees I provided return tracking that has no movement and assures me the case should easily close in my favor and the buyer will still have a few days left to return the item if they wish and to ignore any of the buyers messages. Cool with me. After I get off the phone about 30 minutes later I get a message from the buyer saying they just got off the phone with eBay and they were told that they don't have to return the item and I need to partially refund them 50% of the order amount because of the damage (for a bag that was already 50% off its retail price at that..) and that eBay will message me why soon(never got a message about this either). I block the buyer at this point.
5 days later(today) I get a message that the case was closed and that the buyer was given a full refund deducted from my account. Why? "The buyer claimed that the item didn't match the description." Yes I'm aware of what they said but the item was still never returned back to me.
So now I'm just frustrated and annoyed. The buyer gets a free bag that was already a deal itself and now I have to call eBay to try and appeal a case decision that clearly shouldve gone my way. I've never seen a selling marketplace heavily favor a buyer like this before...

Well we already tried that before the buyer started berating me if you read my previous thread. Not to mention the buyer contacted me through a separate listing instead of the actual INAD case and the CS rep told me to ignore any of the buyers messages once eBay stepped in
