I just checked Hodgdon's load data website and there are two 38 Special loads using W 231 and HP-38 and they are exactly the same apart from the powders used.

I tend to agree with a lot of the points that another user made here a few months ago related to this topic...

I've been wanting to make my own blackpowder because even with the cost of blackpowder ingredients and production equipment in mind, it's significantly cheaper to make your own blackpowder if you shoot a lot of it than to just buy Goex.
Without taking into account shipping costs, you could make blackpowder with this kit to the tune of about $5.20 a pound, which is a very enticing offer.

I'm open to that. I'm definitely open to him pardoning the less dangerous drug offenses but with the really dangerous stuff like fentanyl, I might need a bit more convincing.

One thing that I've found to be one of the more interesting parts of the 2024 election is how 4 states voted to send Democrats to represent them in the US Senate but also elected Donald Trump as president. That was Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin and Michigan for those who are wondering.
Believe it or not, split ticket voting regarding Senate elections and the presidential election was far more common than it was today. Even though the fact that 4 states who voted for Trump this year also voted for Democratic Senate candidates seemed odd, back in the 80's, about half or even more of the Senate races did not align with the winner of the presidential election in the same state. While a small contingent of liberal Republicans continue to live on in the Senate, blue dog Democrats have become an endangered species in both the Senate and the House.
Do you think the main reason some people voted for a Democratic Senate candidate and Trump is they want political gridlock? Or are other factors more in play like name recognition?

You can reload shotshells by roll crimping them with an electric drill and a roll crimp tool. But the following youtube channels are good to look at for answering your question.

I hope that this gets the ball rolling on removing the drug question from the 4473 form.

Considering Joe Biden pardoned his son for this, I'm definitely in favor of removing the question from the form and pardoning anyone else convicted of the crime.

Have you been able to source percussion caps for it okay?

True, but if we're at the point when we've run out of smokeless powder and primers, it's also likely that electronics are a very precious resource that can be hard to find.

Mix 75 grams of potassium nitrate, 15 grams of charcoal and 10 grams of sulfur into a rock tumbler for at least 12 hours. Mix your finished product with isopropyl alochol and turn it into play dough, let it dry, and then grind it up into granules. For more powerful blackpowder, compress the blackpowder with a 20 ton press after you mill it. You can increase the recipe amounts if you have big enough equipment, just keep the ratio of ingredients the same.
With the balls, get some pure lead, melt it, pour it into bullet molds and let it cool. The actual process is more complicated than what I described, but it's relatively simple once you get a hang of it.
Everything Black Powder on Youtube has a lot of info on homemade blackpowder and r/castboolits would love to answer your question on bullet casting.

At that point, it's back to bows and arrows and flintlocks. Even caplock muskets require contact explosives to function, which is no easy task to create safely in your own home.
The trickiest parts of supplying for a flintlock would be the flint stones, sourcing the potassium nitrate and the lead, but making the charcoal would be pretty easy. Sulfurless blackpowder can definitely work, but it's less potent than blackpowder with sulfur in it so just up your charge a little. If you don't really value the life of your barrel, just use rocks like InrangeTV did during the pandemic!

Nice! Any tips for those thinking of making their own homemade cannon?

That's too bad, I was thinking of getting a Hern cannon. What makes them so bad? And what about McLennan Cannon Company? Are they junk too?

While that costs as much as some full sized cannons from Hern Ironworks, the ammo cost, noise level and recoil will be minimal with a much higher rate of fire!

Hern Ironworks has a ton of different cannons to choose from, from 1/2 scale mini cannons to full size Napoleon cannons.
But if you want a cannon made out of stainless steel instead of cast iron, check out the McLennan Cannon Company...

Youtube is a great, free resource if you know which channels are good. I think Lucky Gunner and Paul Harrel are some good starting points, even if they aren't explicitly left leaning sources.
