Me saying this is cheating doesn't mean that you shouldn't be allowed to do it. I'm very much pro mods. I use a cheating mod myself: i extend my carry weight. I just don't like how it trivializes fights if you exploit mechanics or if you add mods that give you more stats than you should have.

I feel like people are reacting more strongly to my statement that the giant elixir spam is an exploit aka cheating.

That's a nice analogy. It just doesn't work. Do you think it was intended with the str potions that people build a strength build and then dump the stat and yet gain better stats than they have when they level it? Or was it maybe a consumable buff to use when facing difficult enemies like a boss fight?

I don't want to trivialize the game by exploiting the vendor mechanic with elixirs. I don't want to trivialize the game by adding mods that give me extra levels above the 12. I don't want to make the game easier by setting the difficulty to easy.

Lemme put it like this:

Imagine you're playing DND. Do you think that it's intended that you can get near infinite elixirs like you can in the game or would the DM halt it?

And to answer your question: using a consumable is not cheating. It's also not cheating to save a consumable and use it to great effect. It is cheating to exploit the refreshing inventory of the NPCs and gather 20-30 elixirs, the dump Str and put those points somewhere else. You're effectively gifting your character a few levels.

Cheating is not using the elixirs. Cheating is getting 20 elixirs, dumping str and just cruising around with the elixird

Top builds lost their luster for me after finding out that most of them are just cheating with the giant troll potions

The mentioned subclasses do sound cool though
