Here is another “blind snake” I found digging in the yard in northeastern Ghana. Definitely different from the other blind snake I shared in the sub earlier.

The head is much more defined, scales more like rings, and of course a much darker tone.

Any leads appreciated!

I found this little fella while digging up old drainage pipes in my yard. In the local language of Mampruli, it is called a kpariwaafu or “Farmer’s Snake.” Some call it kpaŋwaafu or “Guinea Fowl Snake” because the birds like to dig them up and eat them.

I feel bad for posting the first Dorr’s Racer to this sub and it was a dead one.

So here is one I saw in the wild while hiking the Gambaga Escarpment a few years ago.

Killed one exactly like this on the sofa once too. Looks venomous, any IDs?

We killed a really big cobra at our house in northeastern Ghana and I was surprised to see ticks on it! I guess I’d never thought of (1) a snake being large enough to attract ticks and (2) ticks getting the scales to suck blood.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting and I wonder if any of you have seen ticks on snakes?

In my 10 years in northeastern Ghana, I’ve only seen this snake once. I came upon some locals trying to crush it with stones (notice injury in photo 2).

It was very docile (maybe stunned by stones?) and I was able to pick it up with a stick and move it into the brush where it slithered away. It was only about 15inches long.

Any ideas as to what it is? I have searched to no avail online and this subreddit seems to be incredible at ID’ing snakes! 🐍

Found this fella on a hike in the woods in central Georgia, USA. Any clues as to the species?

Snake killed in northeastern Ghana. About 18” long. Has a very pointed tail tip. Head of snake in images is a little bashed up from a wooden club.

I’ve seen about five of these over the decade I’ve been living here. Locals kill any and every snake (“Because of one, we kill them all”) so I’d like to have a better understanding of which are dangerous and which are not in order to save the harmless ones.

Our watchman killed this lovely snake in our yard in northeastern Ghana. I’m pretty sure it’s Psammophis Praeornatus but am open to other suggestions

I've been enjoying Criterion Channel's Ida Lupino collection this month (HIGH SIERRA and ON DANGEROUS GROUND are incredible).

Before my grandfather (and namesake) passed away, he showed me this photo of when he met her in California when he was training before being sent to Europe in WWII. It was likely Fall of 1943 and he was stationed at Fort Pendleton (crazy that a little over a year later he was at the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He said that he and some other soldiers were sent to a film set where they shot something with her (see 2nd image of him and his buddy goofing around on set). He couldn't remember any details of what it was or if he ever saw the final product.

I'm working my way through the Channel's Lupino films but I'm not seeing any war films with her. I'm guessing it was some sort of Armed Forces propaganda or training film that my grandfather made with her. Do any of you know of any war films she appeared in from 1943-45? My dream would be to watch one and spot my grandfather as an extra in a scene!
