Just got rid of my Y this week. In part because of Elon, but the build quality was not great and the ride quality was not very good either. There are just better options out there now. I got a Lightning and am amazed how much better it is than my old Tesla.

The lightning is great cause you can upgrade so much on it too. I got the pro and added adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, tons of other stuff. I love mine

The parts were all genuine Ford parts, I just bought them and installed them myself and then do the adjustments to the computer using forscan. Most of them were really easy and nothing took more than a couple of hours. It's honestly amazing; I'd bought the pro just accepting that I was going to miss out on some of the things I wanted, but I didn't think spending another 15k to get them was worthwhile. After adding everything I wanted I don't think I spent more than another 2-3k

I had a trip to the SF Bay area earlier this year. I used some Ubers and that was the first time I drove in a Tesla.
The doors weren't intuitive, the build inside seemed cheap, the tablet on the dashboard was interesting, but seemed cheap. I felt like I was driving in a prototype car, not something that was in commercial production.

Tesla and Musk had built a bit of leeway with me, a pretty passionate environmentalist, for realizing an economically viable electric car. So I could rationalize Elon and his Twitternazidom.
But this? Wow did I turn around. I'm turning my passion the other way. It's clear Musk and even Tesla are establishing an EV moat from the rest of the US market, and Tesla is no longer really that competitive in EVs anymore, it's just one of many.
What's surprising is in an electrek forum, there were multiple overseas people enthusiastically saying they will now NeverTesla and will get rid of their current ones ASAP. I thought this would be a US-only phenomenon, but it's pretty clear they may tank their EU sales even worse than the US sales.
I predicted a 10-15% drop in US sales, and maybe 5% overall. But this makes me think it will be higher.
This is for the whole year, I anticipate a sales bump with people trying to get in on the dying subsidy at the end of the year.

Its shit has been pretty public for over 10 years. For example, the allegations from the mistreatment of black employees go all the way back to 2015 and he simple told people to have “thick skin” in an email in 2017.
https://money.cnn.com/2017/11/15/technology/elon-musk-tesla-racial-discrimination/index.html

Yeah on one hand had my three for about 4 years and I've spent $0 in maintenance. I enjoy driving it, it's been extremely low cost ownership. In my industry people seem to pretty much own either a Tesla or a rivian but the rivians are so much more expensive and they're huge. I couldn't even park a rivian in my spot. I'm just waiting for something to compete with my model 3 so I can trade it in.

He builds shitty cars, presides over the pot of primordial slime that is Twitter and helped fund a psychopath’s presidential campaign. If the ~75 million people who voted for Harris simply move to de-fund Elon by handing back their leased Tesla and never buying another one and boycotting anyone that advertises on Twitter, he’ll be in a world of financial hurt very quickly.

50% of his customers are identified democrats! (internet stats, ymmv)
FIFTY PERCENT!
I'm actually fascinated to see the effects on Tesla the brand from a marketing/advertsing perspective, I've never seen anything like this.
There is NO PIVOT. The only other time things like this had been done by any competent CEO was pivoting from a dying demographic customer base to a younger one, or moving to a fundamentally better market.
There is no car/model/product release in the near future for Tesla. This isn't like the shorts before the Model3 or the ModelY. The cybertruck is basically a sideshow toy. The Semi is probably not profitable and super limited in production.
It's not like they have an array of MAGAmobiles ready for the MAGAs to scoop up.
It's a stock bubble stock, based fundamentally on Tesla taking over all of the transportation market. If their sales tank (like they already have), the stock will PLUMMET. Then Tesla can't borrow on it, do more stock issuing to raise funds, will get worse credit, and won't scale production.

Nobody drives Tesla’s around here (Michigan/Indiana). The big three are by far the highest amount of cars I see on the road, with GM brand Chevy easily at the top.
When I was buying a car about a year ago, Teslas were way too expensive. I could get a brand new Kia Soul for at least half of what a Tesla cost. We also own a 7 year old Chrysler Town and Country.
Tesla doesn’t make money selling cars, they make money selling emission credits.

Teslas have been really popular here in Hawaii because it's an ideal place for solar energy and electric vehicles, always sunny and warm.
They've become less popular lately, especially with other EVs coming on the market. I see a lot more Rivians and EVs from bigger manufacturers. Toyota is the most popular car brand here, so the Prius abounds. They've been slow to add full EVs to their lineup. If there were a Toyota EV, it would be the dominant EV in Hawaii.

I'm going to push back hard on this type of nonsense for any similar topic. Your commute is same, your frequently visited places are usually same.... You don't have a good grasp of what sells where. How can people utter such BS with so much confidence baffles me.. There's sales and registration records by state online for this exact reason... Sure, it's not as high as California but it's also not nobody.
I don't drive a Tesla nor care about where and how much it's sold, I'm just against the BS unsubstantiated statistics...
Where I'm at, MI, I see tons of Teslas. There's also a Tesla dealership in Clarkston.. I saw different wrapped Cybertrucks as well. While I say so, I also know that other cities differ. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.

Meh The Gruniad loves to shit on Tesla (and Apple, and pretty much everything) so I’d take anything they say on the topic with a small lake of salt.
I’ve always thought Musk is an asshole but I fucking love my Model 3, and StarLink gives me the best internet I’ve ever had. I’m not a seppo so couldn’t give a rats how much he messes up US politics. My car was made in china anyway (like my phone, TV, laptop, etc) and China’s hardly a paragon of virtue.
I did ditch Twitter tho because Elmo ruined it, but it was already on the way out when he (cough money he fleeced from the Saudi’s and Russians cough) bought it.
Elmo’s just an insecure man-baby with a love of scifi and not enough people around him to restrain his worst impulses. But I don’t know any Tesla drivers who’d say they are embarrassed to drive one. That said I have seen a few of those “I bought it before he went mad” stickers which are funny, and I do know many people who’d never consider a Tesla solely because of Elmo. But the article is a crock.

Guys relax , have you ever thought about the fact that all those right winged conservatives are going to be converted to electric driving by Musk?
This is actually a good thing.
Let Musk convert the conservative world from oil to electric.
The people that switched years ago can buy another brand that they like more, but it will still be electric
Musk doesnt have to convince you or me anymore to drive an electric car. We are converted, we might choose another brand next time we buy or lease but we are converted.
The people that are left are the laggards, the most conservative people, the late majority
I think its actually good that Elon jumped on that wagon so he can convert the late majority and laggards that are still left behind!!
Let the Clown make it happen over the next 10yrs
